When the floor area of public buildings is more than 20,000 square meters, the energy consumption per square meter is 3-8 times that of ordinary public buildings. In China,as a large-scale public building, urban complex buildings usually have a floor area of more than 100,000 square meters. The average per square meter energy consumption of urban complexes in China is about 300 kWh/(m2.a),and even more than 500 kWh/(m2.a).Since 2009,China's urban complex has entered the stage of high-speed development, and its distribution has expanded to the second and third-line cities. The number of urban complexes has soared, and the completed area has reached 430 million square meters by the end of 2016.Through literature research, the author finds that there is a lack of research on the overall energy consumption of urban complexes composed of at least three or more types of buildings at home and abroad, let alone on the characteristics of energy consumption of urban complexes and energy saving of MEP systems. The existing literature either focuses on the technical characteristics and practicability of a certain type of MEP system, ignores the potential impact of the relationship between different MEP systems on the overall energy consumption and operation of the urban complex,or divides the complex into different types of buildings and studies one of them separately. The energy saving has neglected the integration of the energy saving technology of the integrated electromechanical system. In the past MEP design, the thermal balance between the building interior, the building and the external environment has not been paid attention to,and the thermal balance energy saving technology of the cold source system, heat source system, transmission and distribution system has not been studied. This paper tries to consider the urban complex as a whole, considering not only the thermal balance between different buildings and the inner and outer zones of the complex, but also the thermal balance between the complex and the outdoor environment, that is,the natural cold source free cooling technology.By balancing the two heat inside and outside the complex, the different demand of heat and cold at the same time can be balanced, and the running time of the cold and heat sources can be reduced,so as to achieve the purpose of energy saving. At the end of this paper, taking a city complex in Hangzhou as an example, the different functional zones in the complex are simulated by Carrier HAP software of America. It is found that the heat transfer can be carried out in the internal and external environment of the complex within six months of a year through thermal balance design, and in the other six months. The domestic hot water can be heated by recovering the condensing heat of the chiller.Three different MEP proposal are designed for this purpose. It is pointed out theoretically that the annual operation cost can be saved by 21%and 46%respectively by using basic thermal balance and total thermal balance technology.
