The sedimentation and consolidation of soil has always been a hot topic in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, which determines the engineering properties such as consolidation and settlement of soil.Athorough understanding of clay particle deposition, suspension characteristics and consolidation mechanism can better solve the settlement and consolidation problem of soil in engineering. In this paper, kaolinite particles are taken as the research object, and their sedimentary characteristics under constant gravity are studied in the following aspects:1.Observation test of modified kaolinite sedimentary characteristics:Using soluble starch, apple pectin, and macroporous adsorption resin as flocculants for kaolinite suspension flocculation and sedimentation experiment was carried out by the catalysis of observation,Zeta potential as a measure of interaction force between particles is studied more than three different concentrations of flocculating agent for the influence of suspension flocculation sedimentation process, and its action mechanism were analyzed.2.The constant gravity non-ideal sedimentation model:Based on the Lamm equation and the non-ideal sedimentation model,a constitutive model was proposed to simulate the settlement of clay particles under constant gravity conditions. The constitutive model includes the parameters that can quantitatively describe the flocculation settlement of the modified kaolin suspension--decay coefficient a and precipitation coefficients. In addition, the new model is used to calculate the instantaneous settling rate of clay particles at different depths of suspension.3.Model application:The new model was applied to the settlement calculation of sediment mixed blown fill, modified sludge and surface modified carbon nanotubes. The concentration decay function proposed in this study is used to simulate the concentration change of each group of suspensions, and the time required for settling is predicted. The calculated results agree well with the measured data, which indicates that the model has high accuracy and the value of further study.
