Study On The Protection And Utilization Of Urban Industrial Heritage In Benxi City

Industrial heritage is a witness of not only the urban industrial development,but also the national industrial development.The valuable historical memories,architecture,aesthetics and other cultural information behind the industrial heritage vividly demonstrate the personality of a city.Benxi City is a city coming into being along with development of the coal and steel industry.As a carrier of the Benxi’s urban development,industrial heritage has vital technical,historical,cultural and economic value.However,many industrial heritages of Benxi have disappeared during urban expansion and transformation.The first modern blast furnace in China has also been damaged.To protect these industrial heritages and to give full play to their value have become an issue of great concern.Based on case study of industrial heritage protection and development at home and abroad,and combining the field survey of the industrial heritage cluster in Benxi,this paper finds out the following problems with Benxi’s current industrial heritage protection and development,including lack of integrated protection and development methods,damage of some industrial buildings,inadequate fund support,etc.Concerning these problems,the causes are examined,which mainly include complexity of the ownership,lack of relevant knowledge in the government and social level,lack of corresponding professional talent reserve,depression of the local economy,etc.According to the problems and causes,this paper proposes several suggestions,such as seeking support from the upper government,enhancing advertising,combining industrial heritage protection and development with the old city transformation,attracting more investments and intelligence through multiple channels,etc.This research also finds out the necessity of speeding up promulgation of laws and regulations to promote industrial heritage protection and the importance of planning protection and development of urban industrial heritages based on the local conditions.It is hoped that this research can provide theoretical basis and practical guidance for Benxi’s industrial heritage protection and development.
