Case Study On The Parapet Design Of Contemporary Building

《WA》released an album entitled "Parapet" in September 2018,which had a profound discussion on the railings of buildings.There is no complete logic,theory or reference for the design of guardrails in the field,except for the general practice and atlas.This opened the discussion and research of contemporary guardrail design in Chinese architecture circle,and also marked the return of attention to architectural detail design.The emergence and development of guardrail is closely related to the evolution of architectural space.It is the progress of architectural technology and the richness of architectural space that promote the development of guardrail.With the rapid development of material and economic conditions in China,building types and building space are increasingly complicated and diversified,which makes the position of guardrail,an architectural element,in design needs to be re-examined.At present,our country has a certain number of excellent guardrail design cases,but because of the construction base,large scale,short period,guardrail design in the actual construction is still a considerable lack.Guardrail design is a direct embodiment of architectural design delicacy and humanization.Its materials,shape,scale,temperature and color all respond to and relate to human vision and touch.Therefore,guardrail design has also become one of the measurement standards of whether architectural design is people-oriented.Guardrail design is often ignored in the past architectural creation and development of the value of more aspects,the contemporary building guardrail should not only be regarded as a safety protection facilities,but also more in line with the modern needs of the actual function.Starting from the above urgent needs,this thesis conducts research on building guardrails through methods such as case studies,classification studies,literature studies,and field investigations.The research content includes the main elements of the building guardrail,the diverse spaces where the building guardrail is located,the multidimensional function of the building guardrail and the typical case study of building guardrail design.Finally,the design research conclusions of returning to the guardrail body and the development trend of contemporary architectural guardrail design are obtained: functional integration,derailing,integration,symbolization,and integration.This is a tentative discussion on the classification of guardrail,which has practical significance.It can provide some reference for architectural creation and design practice.In addition,it will be of more significance to trigger more practitioners to refocus on building guardrails and even building details.
