The soil stabilizer is a kind of new materials applied in highway engineering(especially in the Yellow River alluvial plain,the desert and semi-desert areas,such as Henan,Shandong,Inner Mongolia,Xinjiang and other region s)to improve soil properties.It not only has the advantage of environmental protection,also can improve soil properties with the quickest speed,solving the problems in the environmental protection,construction quality,schedule and safety of tradition al materials such as lime and cement in soil improvement to some extent.This article studied the basic performance of typical fine sand soil derived from Liaocheng city in Shandong province,the optimization of four primary soil stabilizers,the mechanical strength of fine sand soil with stabilizer and fly ash as well as the stabilizing mechanism.The application of stabilizer with fly ash in fine sand soil to subbase was also investigated.Therefore,the C type powder soil stabilizer was determined as the optimum one.After further research on this stabilizer,the optimum mixture ratio of stabilizer and fly ash(stabilizer: fly ash: soil = 8:10:82)was determined.The thickness of subbase was 18 cm and the unconfined strength of stabilized fine sand soil samples at 7d with stabilizer and fly ash reached 1.34 MPa,2.61 MPa at 28 d,4.77 MPa and 5.88 MPa at 90 d and 180 d,respectively.The splitting strength was 0.50 MPa and 0.54 MPa at 90 d and 180 d,respectively.The compressive resilience modulus was 614 MPa and 679 MPa at 90 d and 180 d.Through early stage research of the project,construction study in testing stage,the application during construction and the late tracking observation and testing,this new semirigid road material with stabilizer and fly ash was found to have a good performance in improving mechanical and board properties of fine sand soil.Building the better highway subbase using soil stabilizer,it not only can replace the lime,being less pollutive and more conducive to the harmonious development of man and nature,but also is suitable for construction in towns,rural areas,natural reserves and roads need to be constructed quickly.Moreover,no special tools are needed in real construction.The mixture was immediately grinded after mixed and then wet preservated to solve the water retention problem of fine sand soil.This further improves the construction effect and provides the experience for applications in fine sand soil base.
