Construction project cost prediction is main basis for investment decision and model selection at the beginning of a project. Therefore, studying on forecasting engineering cost via algorithms is popular in engineering cost field. One of the project management difficulties is information interaction among various participants during the long period of construction.Studying on inspection, storage, calculation and interaction of project information is essencial when promoting BIM technology in the field of engineering cost. This paper compares the differences between the cost caculation model adapted to BIM technology and the bill of quantities.Based on ontology theory,a unified standard is established to verify the normalization of BIM modeling. In order to achieve efficient information interaction, methods for verification, storage and interaction of BIM properties information are proposed. Finally,by establishing prediction models, this paper explores predicting project cost with BIM engineering quantity before construcion, that can guide project investment decision and model selection. The research results of this paper show that the cost calculation model applicable to BIM technology is different from the traditional way.Meanwhile,it is found that the normalization of modeling is an important prerequisite for engineering statistics. In this paper,a framework of the cost domain ontology is established, which can be used as a standard to verify the normalization of BIM modeling. Also, this paper studies on putting IFC information into MySQL database. With IFC files, ontology files and MySQL database as media of BIM information interaction, participants can efficiently share BIM information. Finally,BIM quantities are used as inputs to establish the engineering cost prediction regression model which is proved can satisfy the error requirements of cost estimation in investment stage of construction.
