Electric arc furnace is the most typical unbalanced loads in steelmaking industry.The power quality issures that it caused has been deeply concerned for a long time.In the process of smelting,the arc change causes the adjacent power system fluctuation which imposes a great impact on the safety of the power grid and the operating efficiency of the electrical equipment.Therefore,we must take corresponding measures to deal with it.Firstly,the equivalent mathematical model of arc furnace was established in terms of the structure and operation characteristics of arc furnace.Then the Yuhaoyuan Steel Mill in Gaoyou,Yangzhou was used as an example for analysis.The influence of the electric arc furnace loads on the power grid was analyzed,including:voltage fluctuations and flickers from the reactive power shock,chugging of related generators from the active power shock,three-phase imbalance due to the unstable combustion of the arc,as well as the harmonics caused by the factors mentioned above.Secondly,the possible solutions were investigated for voltage fluctuation of electric arc furnace load,especially in the harnessing effect of reactive power compensation devices.The control theory and method of passive Static Var Compensator(SVC)and active Static Var Generator(SVG)were analyzed and compared based on the simulation results.The results from practical application were given for further investigation.After investigating the structure,principle and the model of the APF and its corresponding harmonic suppression strategy,this paper focused on the analysis and verification of APF's harmomc suppression and control effect based on the simulation experiment and practical application.In conclusion,the influence of arc furnace loads on power grid is analyzed using the electric arc furnace loads from an actual steel mill,specializing in voltage fluctuation,harmonics and their corresponding control and suppression measures in practice.The paper provides practical guides towards reducing the influence of electric arc furnace load on power grid and improving the operation efficiency of equipment.
