This paper takes the upgraded stinger of a large deep-water pipe-laying ship as the research object. After the upgrade, the length of the stinger increases from 75.5meters to 105 meters, the operating radius increases from 73 meters to 90 meters, and the operating depth of the pipe-laying ship is deepened to 2000 meters of ultra-deep water. The stinger monitoring system is presented in this paper,on the basis of fully considering the change of the structure and the working environment. The aim is to establish a complete structural health monitoring system, monitor the sensitive positions of the stinger structure in real time, guide the operation of laying pipes, and avoid the occurrence of safety accidents caused by structural damage.Research contents mainly include the selection of monitoring position, the design of monitoring system scheme and the implementation of protective device model experiment.Static analysis, hydrodynamic study and fatigue analysis are performed using DNV Sesam software in the selection of monitoring positions. The monitoring points selected by static analysis are mainly concentrated on the chord rods in the first section of the stinger. The monitoring points selected by fatigue analysis are mainly concentrated on the cross bars in the stinger first section. The result of hydrodynamic analysis shows that the hull roll motion can be restrained by the stinger. But the dynamic response has no obvious effect on the stinger structure due to the steady sea conditions in the operation. The analysis results are compared with the initial stinger, and the variation law of the force characteristics and analyzed. In view of the cumbersome wiring shortcomings of the centralized monitoring system of the initial stinger, the distributed monitoring system is adopted, which can be configured flexibly according to the working radius of the stinger. To ensure the safety and reliability of the monitoring system, the protective device design and protective seal scheme are performed.A model experiment is carried out to verify the feasibility of the sealing scheme. And the paper provides guidance for the actual installation of the monitoring system.
