Research And Practice Of Design Review System On Virtual Reality

In face of the new trends and new challenges of product manufacturing,on the one hand,innovative design is a powerful promoter for the industrial transformation and upgrading,and on the other hand,the design competition plays a crucial role in the innovation of design and manufacturing industry.With the appearance and development of the design competition,the participation degree of individuals and corporates in design competitions both at home and abroad increases,while studies and discussions on the design review have also been continuously conducted.The design review is mainly dominated by image-text browsing and model display in terms of its form,which can both provide a visual expression of product information in a simple and fast way.But such shortcomings as having a limited content presentation,densely-stacked products,high fabricating cost or unstable presentation effect of the model still exist and have caused unfavorable influence on the expression of design works as well as towards the outcome of the design review and the experience of experts.Among the present design competition stages,the design review is in urgent need of innovation in terms of its form,while at the same time,the rapid development of visual information technology has brought new opportunities to the form innovation of the design review.The virtual reality technology is characterized by sense of immersion,interaction and multi-perceptibility,and as well as the capability of enriching both the form and content of product presentations,thus making the integration of this technology and the design review an inevitable trend of the times and an effective approach for designers to come up with innovative design reviews.The virtual design review system is an optimized version of the traditional review process,and helps expert reviewers to intuitively feel and rationally analyze the entries at a higher efficiency,making a big contribution to the creation of a win-win situation for expert reviewers and competitors.Based on the interaction design elements and principles,and combined with the basic characteristics of virtual reality technology,the principles of interaction design in virtual design review was put forward for use as a guide in the experimental research involved in this paper.With Unity3 D engine and HTC Vive Oculus Rift,a virtual display and review system for three-dimensional product model of cultural creative products and construction equipment-manufactured vehicles was established.Users can walk freely in the virtual exhibition hall to obtain detailed information of the entries including design background,color,material,manufacturing process,and so on through observation and interaction,while also completing their own evaluation and review.In this paper,from the five aspects of user element,media element,target element,scene element,and interbehavior element,the framework of the virtual design review system was analyzed with detailed elaboration on experimental contents and design considerations,while the sense of reality and immersion of the virtual exhibition hall,together with the interactive and conceptual expression of the product presentations were explored as well.This study is expected to be of innovative significance to the application of virtual reality technology in the design competition field.
