Based on the issue of serious gnawing harm and grain loss of corn ears,experimental research was conducted to analyze the effect of factors on corn grain loss,such as snapping rolls type,rotational speed,grain moisture content and height difference.The "secondary damage" problem was found during the tests.The solution was proposed that a curved plate was installed above the low snapping roll.Technical support of reducing corn grain loss was provided on horizontal snapping rolls device.1.Factors were analyzed and its' level were determined,such as snapping rolls type,rotational speed,the forward speed of machine and height difference.The test scheme was designed and test benches were built and reformed.2.The contrast experiment of snapping rolls I,II and III were conducted.Snapping rolls type and rotational speed have a significant impact on corn grain loss and significant interaction.There are no significant differences in the rate of corn grain loss between snapping rolls II and III that are better than I.When rotational speed is 800r/min or1050 r/min,the grain loss of snapping rolls I is less.When rotational speed is 600 r/min or 800 r/min,the grain loss of snapping rolls II and III is less.3.On the test bench of snapping rolls II,through the contrast experiment of grain moisture content,finding that moisture content of corn grain influence the grain loss rate significantly.When rotational speed of snapping rolls is 600 r/min,700 r/min or 800 r/min,the corn grain loss rate of lower moisture content is lower than the corn grain loss rate of higher moisture content.When rotational speed of snapping rolls is 900 r/min or 1050 r/min,the corn grain loss rate of lower moisture content is higher than the corn grain loss rate of higher moisture content.When the grain moisture content is 26.3%,the best level of rotational speed is 800 r/min.When the grain moisture content is 12.8%,the best level of rotational speed is 700 r/min.4.Based on the single factor experiment of height difference,when the height difference is smaller,the corn ears easily got the secondary damage.When the height difference is larger,the corn plants were fed difficultly.The best level of height difference is 44 mm,the chance of the corn ears detained is decreased,when the height difference is more than 44 mm.5.High-speed camera system were used to collect the images datum and analyze the datum,and we found that some corn ears stayed on snapping rolls after they were picked.There also is "bouncing" phenomenon.Those phenomenons caused secondary damage of the corn ears.So a curved plate was installed above the low snapping roll.Through the test,we found that this way reduced the chance of corn ears secondary damage.It also avoided the low snapping roll impacting on the corn ears,and the loss of corn grain is reduced.
