The study was conducted under the condition of high temperature heat stress. To study the effect of Chinese herbal medicine additives on heat stress of laying hens, the best anti-stress prescription of Chinese herbal medicine was selected.Twelve kinds of Chinese herbal medicines, including Crataegus pinnatifida,Schisandra chinensis,Codonopsis pilosula,Epimedium brevicornus, were selected and mixed into powder in a certain proportion.900 280-day-old Roman brown shell laying hens were randomly selected and divided into 5 groups,180 in each group,9 replicates in each group, and 20 in each replicate. The diets in the four experimental groups were supplemented with 0.1%,0.5%,1%,1.5% additives, respectively. The diet in the control group was not supplemented with additives. The feeding management in each group was the same during the experiment. The results were as followings. In experiment 1,the blood triglyceride, total protein and low density lipoprotein in 4 test groups increased significantly compared with control group(P<0.05),and the globulin, high density lipoprotein decreased significantly(P<0.05),but the effect to total cholesterol content was not significant(P>0.05);The activities of serum alkaline phosphatase in 4 test groups were 148.79,141.23,112.36,138.25U/L,respectively,and decreased significantly(P<0.05)compared with control group(P<0.05),The difference between test ?and other three groups was significant(P<0.05);The activities of serum superoxide dismutase in 4 test groups increased significantly compared with control group(P < 0.05),there was no significant difference among the four test groups(P>0.05);ALT and AST,compared with control group,in all the four test groups had significant improvement compared with control group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference among the four test groups(P>0.05).In experiment 2,the egg laying number in test group was 27.3? 5%(P<0.05),16.74%(P<0.05),7.72%(P<0.05)and 66.73%(P<0.01)higher than that in test ?,?,?and control group, respectively; The egg laying rate in test ?group was 27.36%(P<0.05),16.74%(P<0.05),7.72%(P<0.05)and 66.49%(P<0.01)higher than that in test ?,?,?and control group, respectively; There was no significant difference in the feed intake among the experiment and control groups(P>0.05),the feed to egg ratio in the test ?group decreased by 3.98%(P<0.05),1.63%(P<0.05),2.82%(P<0.05)and 13.31%(P<0.01),respectively,compared with test ?,test ?,test ?and control groups; The average egg weight, eggshell thickness and eggshell weight in the test groups were all better than that in the control group(P<0.05),the egg breaking rate in the test group was 65.59%,6? 0.49%,52.94%,80.37%,lower than that in test ?,?,?and control groups, respectively, the difference was all extremely significant(P<0.01).
