Feline panleukopenia(FP)is an acute and highly contagious disease in cats caused by feline panleukopenia virus(FPV),and the main clinical features of the affected cats with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, enteritis, and white blood cells reduce. The disease spreads fast and does great harm to cats.In recent years, the number of domestic cats and FP cases in Xi’an has been increasing, which poses a serious threat to the health of cats even death, and also has a certain impact on the life of cat families. In order to master the infection and incidence of FPV in domestic cats in Xi’an,this study analyzed 2240 suspected FP cases from January 2013 to December 2017 in Xi’an Pet Hospital. The results showed that 2240 suspected FP-affected cats came from 1919 families,of which1403 had only 1 cats, accounting for 73.11%(1403/2240).There were 1483 cats vaccinated with FP vaccine, accounting for 66.21%(1483/2240).Statistical analysis of FPV test results in the feces of cats sent to the hospital revealed that there were 257 FPV positives, accounting for 11.47%(257/2240).Statistics on the age, clinical symptoms and physiological indicators of FPV positive cats revealed that 89.00%(221/257)of the infected cats were younger than 9 months of age;and 51.36%(132/257)of the cats had clinical symptoms of vomiting,72.37%(186/257)of the cats had diarrhea. The testing of white cells in the blood revealed that the total number of white cells of 83.27%(214/257)of the FP-positive cats had lower than 5.50×10~9/L).Statistical analysis of the results of FPV positive cats found that 43 of the cats treated with symptomatic supportive therapy died, all of which were less than 9 months old,of which 41 were unvaccinated and had a mortality rate of 17.45%(41/235);two deaths occurred in the vaccination and the mortality rate was 9%(2/22).Statistics showed that there was no correlation between FPV infection and gender and species of cats. The virus infection rate of vaccinated cats was significantly lower than that of unvaccinated cats(8.56%(22/257)/91.44%(235/257)).Statistics found that FPV in domestic cats in Xi’An region have higher infection rates, especially young cats and unvaccinated cats.It is recommended that domestic cats should be vaccinated with FP vaccine and carefully maintained so as to protect domestic cats from the harm of FPV.
