The Effect Of Welfare Status On Performance Of Fattening Pigs

Pig farming with welfare has become a hot topic in current pig industry.European animal husbandry developed countries have made regulations to mandate use animal welfare to raise pigs.Increasing concerns have been focus regarding animal welfare in pig farming.However,pig farmers are concerned about the impact of animal welfare on production.At present,there are still relatively few reports on the effect of animal welfare on pig performance in pig farming.Therefore,in this study,growing and finishing pigs were used as materials,and 146 Duroc/landrace/Yorkshine hybrid pigs were used in the study.It was explored the transport time,the hygienic conditions on the pig farm,and the routine treatment on the farm(teeth cutting,castrate,and electrocuting),stockman contact time with pigs,pig occupied space and mixed groups on welfare and growth performance of growing finishing pigs.We used body lesion score,Noisy score,the number of days required reach 110 kg body weight(days to 110 kg),total blood insulin-like growth factor binding protein and dressing yield etc.are used as parameters for evaluating pig welfare and growth performance.The study found that transportation time,farm hygienic conditions,occupy area and mixed groups had important effects on the welfare and production performance of growing finishing pigs.Therefore,in practice,it is necessary to ensure that transportation time is as short as possible,to ensure reasonable raising density,and to avoid mixing groups as much as possible.The electrocution of pigs will have a very adverse effect on the welfare of the pigs.Therefore,avoid using electromagnet rods to remove pigs in the farm.Although the attitude of stockman to pigs does not have a significant effect on growing pigs,ensuring that a certain number of stable checking can relieve pigs' stress and weaken the fear of pigs to humans,thus can appropriately increase in production.This study will provide important theoretical basis and practical reference for actual production in pig farming.
