Mulberry is an important part of China’s Farming Culture.From the civilization beginning until now,the development and utilization of mulberry has never stopped.The utilization of mulberry experienced from collecting mulberry fruit as food to planting mulberry,raising silkworm and making silk,then to using mulberry in traditional medicine.and its application in ecological shelter forest and Gardens.The cultivation and production of mulberry also shaped the way of life in traditional societies.China had a long history of mulberry cultivation and produced profound cultural accumulation.This article traced the history and regional distribution of ancient Chinese mulberry cultivation,and discussed several manifestations of mulberry culture and its influence on traditional society.The article was divided into five parts.The first part reviews the previous studies on mulberry,including the history of mulberry cultivation,ecological application of mulberry,food and drug functions of mulberry and so on.In the second part,on the basis of systematically reviewing the development of mulberry cultivation in ancient China and combining with previous studies,four centers of mulberry cultivation put forward Bashu;Jiangnan;Zhusanjiao;Zhongyuan in ancient China,and the reasons for the development of mulberry cultivation from north to South were explained by climate and ecology.The third part is about the influence of mulberry culture on traditional society,mainly from the folk paper-cut art,the commercial activities of mulberry in traditional society and the folk customs produced by the silkworm and mulberry production.This paper explored the combination of mulberry painting and porcelain technology and its manifestation,and discussed the image of mulberry art in utensils and artistic works.Through texts and archaeological materials,this paper traced the relationship between mulberry and primitive religion.It was inspected that early Chinese traditional culture and mulberry culture had deep roots since the beginning of the civilization.The fourth part discusses the expression and evolution of mulberry literary image in ancient literature.On the base of classification standard of literary genre,this article discussed separately artistic image and artistic expression of mulberry in poetry,mulberry and poetry,mulberry and Fu(a kind of literature in China),mulberry and china opera.That the image of mulberry literature was constantly developed by the advancement and accumulation of history was proposed.The fifth part outline the use of mulberry resources,mainly from three aspects mulberry applications in ingredients and medicine ecology restoration and landscape garden.In terms of ingredients and medicine,the mulberry ’s nutritional value,medicinal and edible methods of mulberry fruit,leaves,roots and stems were summarized.Based on the ecological and ecological characteristics of mulberry,the ecological aspect suggests that mulberry is an excellent ecological restoration tree species.The garden aspect summarized the application of mulberry trees in ancient gardens,especially in royal gardens.The application methods of mulberry trees in modern gardens were summarized.It is proposed that in the modern gardens,mulberry ’s excellent suitability and some unique appearances and plentiful cultural connotations were applied in the garden design practice.Finally taking the landscape of the Yu Geng Yue Yun mulberry-dike-fish-pond,and this article give an example to analysis the landscape elements of the modern agricultural sightseeing park with the theme of mulberry furthermore giving suggestions for further improvement of the mulberry-dike-fish-pond with urban modern agriculture and ecological garden landscape methods.
