The plant materials used in highway slope protection in North China are single,and large-scale vegetation degradation has been observed in some areas recently.Ecologically appropriate plant materials and vegetation communities have a certain effect on improving highway landscape and maintaining long-term stability of vegetation communities.27 species(17 shrubs and 10 herbaceous plants)and seven vegetation communities(five used on sunny slope and two on shady slope)were selected based on the investigation of natural slope vegetation in different habitats in Beijing.Seven vegetation communities were artificially simulated by spraying.The plant materails and communities characteristics such as seedling emergence,plant growth capacity,seedling survival,species diversity,hydrological property,greening speed and shear strength were measured.Then the slope adaptability of various plant materials and the slope protection effect of seven vegetation communities were evaluated.The results showed that:(1)Through the analysis of the seedling emergence,growth capacity of aboveground and underground parts of plants and seedling survival,the shrub materials suitable for highway slope greening were as follows:Indigofera amblyantha>Lespedeza bicolor>Vitex negundo>A morpha fruticosa>Lespedeza floribunda>Caryopteris mongholica>Clematis fruticosa,the grass materials were:Carex rigescens>Gypsophila paniculata>Vicia sepium>Anemarrhena asphodeloides>Festuca elata>Filifolium sibiricum>Iris lactea>Iris tectorum?(2)Considering the hydrological properties,greening speed and shear strength,the slope protection effects of seven vegetation communities were in the order of community 1>community 2>community 6>community 4>community 3>community 5>community 7.Configuration 1 had the best slope protection effect,configuration 2 and configuration 6 had moderate slope protection effects.The slope protection effect of configuration 5 and configuration 7 was general.
