To explore the relationship among leaf canopy micro-climate factors such as temperature,humidity and illumination,branch growth and fruit quality on Xanthoceras sorbifolia,the meteorological factors,branch growth factors such as annual shoot length and diameter,branch quantity and soluble sugar contents in leaves and fruit quality factors was investigated from different areas of canopy.This study was carried out on 6-year-old trees in Dongying,Shandong province.The fundamental purpose of this study is to explore how the canopy impact the climate and if this impact would influence the fruit production.This will help to draw up trim plan of this extensive managed tree species.The main results were as follows:(1)Results show that average temperature of west and south side of the canopy is higher than east and north side,also has larger temperature difference in different areas from the same side.Upper outer areas has the highest illumination in all 4 directions and the Under inner is the lowest(p>0.05).While in west and south sides illumination is upper inner>under outer,the east and south sides show a opposite phenomenon(p>0.05).This may because upper areas of west and north side have much branches where are tower the sun directly.Areas with both higher temperature and illumination has a higher leaf soluble sugar content.That may be show this areas has a higher photosynthetic production content.(2)Branch growth situation is significant different in different area of the canopy.The 1-year-old branch length and diameter is much bigger in western and southern areas.The eastern areas has the most new branch and leave quantity thus 91.5 new branches and 112 leaves.Leaf sober sugar content in the southern areas is the highest of all 4 directions(105.48mg/g)while the highest leaf dianfen content is the eastern side(19.34mg/g).Eastern under inner area leaves content the most highest N%of all 16 areas(2.47mg/g).In total,there are more new branches and leaves upper outer areas and under outer areas also these areas content more sugar,N%and C/N.(3)Temperature has the weakest correlation with all branch growth indicators,there is just weak-correlation between temperature and new branch quantity.While there are strong-correlation between humidity and many breach growth indicators,including 1-year-old branch diameter which correlation index is-0.621.The most strong-correlated micro-climate factor with branch growth indicators is illumination,the correlation index between leaf sober sugar content is 0.765 while the dianfen content is 0.771.
