In order to change the traditional approach of developing firstly economy and protecting secondly environment,the research is to sure that combating desertification and developing sand industry will be worked simultaneously in Ecological Sand Industry Demonstration Zone of Ulan Buh Desert.With gross area of 1000 km2,the researched area situates in the east edge of Ulan Buh desert and within the boundaries of Bayinmurensumu,where is in the Alxa Left Banner and the west bank of the Yellow River.It is connecting with Wuhai City facing the Yellow River in the east and with the vast Ulan Buh desert in the west.It also shares boundaries in the south with Wusitai Economic Development Zone in Alxa and the north with Dengkou county of Bayinnaoer city.On the base of field investigation,analyzing geographic information,we read vast amount of relevant literature and referenced some plannings,whichare Ecological Construction Planning for Ecological Sand Industry Demonstration Zone in Ulan Buh,and Alxa’s Thirteenth Five-year Plan for Economic and Social Development and so on.After mastering the condition of geography,climate,vegetation,soil,water and soil erosion and making system diagnosis and analysis,we made the planning for the researched area,which is made by the principle of sand prevention and economic development.The conclusions include:(1)According to the coverage,vegetation can be divided into four types of high coverage(more than 50%)medium coverage(between 30%-50%),low coverage(between 10%-30%)and very low coverage(less than 10%).The area of each vegetation is separately 5.74 km2,78.81 km2,234.64 km2 and 680.81 km2,accounting for 0.6%,7.9%,23.4%and 68.1%.During the ecological protection of the natural vegetation and artificial vegetation in the research area,we found the plants that in the middle and low vegetation,are of concentration,rich variety and higher biodiversity.They can maintain sand-fixation and ecological balance very well,so we should put forward people to protect and manage native vegetation in healthy ways.Preventing the well group natural vegetation from human disturbance,they can be nurtured and protected in concentration,in necessary to set railing nets.According to natural rules,the vegetation restoration and ecological system can be repaired and improved further by their natural repair capacities.(2)The protection system of"three vertical and multi-transversal" Line belt is the governance model of the prevention and control of desertification in the researched area,including:The frontier resistance sarin belt along the outer desert on the west side,which is the first line of combat desertification with solid and block functions;Thetree belt of highway landscape bank along the secondary lengthways desert-crossing highway in Deng-wu,which will to be the road landscape corridor in the researched area;the tree belt along the Yellow River in the east of the researched area,which is not only to protect the Yellow River wetland and settlements of the villagers,but also to beautify landscape;And lateral tree belt for protecting road and resisting sand in the east of the research area,which is to Set barriers for wind protection and sand-fixation along the roadside,connecting with three longitudinal shelter belts to form the entire framework of protection forest in the researched area;farmland that will be divided into ordinary crops growing areas and economic perennial plant areas in the researched area,are protected by farmland protection forest;the tall moving dunes are comprehensively managed in the engineering and biological measures.(3)Due to poor weather conditions,although many measures and patterns have been successful in at other desert areas,they are likely to no effect in the area.Some methods and techniques are prospective,but they are not applied in actual.A sizable experiments should be carried out to determine the feasibility and operation.Theexperimental demonstrations include:Plant Live Sand-barrier Experimental Demonstration Project,Chemical Sand-fixation Demonstration Project,Update Ammopitanthus Rejuvenation Experimental Demonstration Project,Highway Comprehensive Experimental Demonstration Project,Ten Thousand Acres of Haloxylon Forest Experimental Demonstration Project and Cultivation Resistant Plant Experimental Demonstration Project.By changing the traditional approach of developing firstly economy and protecting secondly environment,the research proceeds thesand industry development and ecological environment construction in the same time,which will promote each other,guarantee each other,and complete each other.lt can effectively reduce environmental hazard to he local and other places by curbing the sand of Ulan Buh desert dust storms,reducing or eliminating the threat to agricultural production,lives and property of residents in the area of Hetao and downstream plains by sediment.The research will also provide the management mode of prevention and experience for combating desertification in Ulan Buh desert.
