The abuse of antibiotics in food animal production provoked the public concerns of antibiotic resistance. And there are increasing pressures on the use of antibiotics in feed for the prevention of disease and growth promotion as well as those for clinical treatment.Since the 1980 s,Europe and the United States began to ban these antibiotics for growth promotion purposes(AGPs)and the Chinese government has also been introducing ban measures such as in 2017 the growth promotion function of colistin sulfate premix was prohibited. The traditional Chinese herbal veterinary drugs are potential alternatives of feed antibiotics.Sangrovit(tradename: Mei You Zhuang),which is so far China's first and the only one second-class new traditional Chinese herbal veterinary drug and the first herbal medicinal feed additive,is a natural plant product with components of benzophenanthridine alkaloids(QBAs)mainly Sanguinarine and Chelerythrine, which is extracted from the plant of Macleaya cordata in China and used as an alternative for AGPs with the functions of disease prevention and growth promotion.Along with the ban of the colistin sulfate being used in feed, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Sangrovit on growth performance of piglets and the pork quality of fattening pigs and the replacement of colistin sulfate via Sangrovit. The piglet experiment selected 240 × 12 kg or so of "Du × long × large" triple hybrid piglets, which are randomly divided into four treatments, each treatment with 60 pigs, and the experimental period was 30 days. The four treatments are shown as below: Control group(without antibiotics),Sangrovit group,Antibiotics group(with 20 ppm of colistin sulfate,10 ppm of olaquindox and 75 ppm of chlortetracycline)and Sangrovit replacement group(the colistin sulfate in the Antibiotics group was replaced with 30 ppm of Sangrovit). The results show as followings: 1.The number of piglets with diarrhea symptoms was reduced and the average feed intake was improved(an increase of about 15% than the control group and 5% than the antibiotics group).Regarding the average daily gain(ADG)and average feed conversion ratio(FCR),compared to the control group, the ADG is significantly increased by 0.11 kg while the FCR reduced by 0.07.Compared to the antibiotics group, the ADG is significantly increased by 0.05 kg while the FCR reduced by 0.05,which indicated that Sangrovit has a certain growth promoting effect.2.The testing results showed that the level of total Ig G and Ig M in the serum of the piglets was significantly increased in the treatment group. And the levels of Amyloid A and Haptoglobin in piglets' serum were reduced in the treatment group.3.It showed that Sangrovit also has anti-inflammatory effect as the level of TNF-? and IL-6 in the piglets' serum was reduced.4.The number of Escherichia coli and Lactobacillus in the large intestine of piglets was detected. It was found that the number of Lactobacillus had a significant increase while the number of Escherichia coli was decreased due to use of Sangrovit. Therefore,Sangrovit can replace colistin sulfate to a certain extent in the improvement the performance and disease resistance of piglets. The fattening pig experiment selected 90 × 80 kg or so of "Du × long × large" triple hybrid piglets, which are randomly divided into three treatments, each treatment with 30 pigs, and the experimental period was 30 days. The three treatments are as below: Control group(normal feed group),Antibiotics group(with 20 ppm of colistin sulfate and Sangrovit replacement group(the colistin sulfate in the Antibiotics group was replaced with 30 ppm of Sangrovit). The results show as followings: 1.Sangrovit in the feeds can improve the antioxidant capacity of fattening pigs,as the levels of T-SOD and GR in duodenal mucosa were significantly increased and the level of MDA was significantly decreased.2.The testing results of carcass performance showed that the slaughter rate, backfat thickness, eye muscle area and lean meat rate were significantly improved and the carcass quality of the finishing pigs was improved as well.3.The meat color,p H,water loss rate and hydraulic capacity were also tested after slaughtering, the results showed that Sangrovit can significantly improve the meet color, the degradation of p H,water loss and drip loss. Therefore, the fattening pig's antioxidant capacity, the slaughter rate and the meat quality can be improved when using Sangrovit to replace colistin sulfate or using Sangrovit alone.
