The effects of leaves of Broussonetia papyrifera(LBP)used in diet on performance, carcass quality, serum biochemical parameters and apparent digestibility of dietary nutrients were studied in growing-finishing pigs by following experiments.Experiment 1:The nutritients of LBP were studied in the year of 2006.Collecting LBP from March to December, and determining its nutritients(including moisture,GE,CP,EE,CF,ASH,NFE,Ca and P)through conventional analysis. The results showed that the average value(air-dry basis)of LBP were 8.41%,15.22 MJ/kg,19.58%,11.94%,9.69%,12.37%, 38.02%,3.15%,0.50%in moisture,GE,CP,EE,CF,ASH,NFE,Ca and P respectively.Refering to hay processing and in coordination with local weather,it can be concluded that the best period for curing LBP is August to October.Experiment 2:Effects of the LBP used in diets on performance, serum biochemical parameters and apparent digestibility of dietary nutrients were studied in growing pigs.36 crossbred Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire(DLY) growing pigs averaging 20kg in initial body weight were selected and randomly divided into four groups(9 pigs per group with 2:1 of males: females)by weight with three replicates in each group, each replicate including 3 pigs. These pigs were fed to diets inclused LBP 0%(group A), 3%(group B),6%(group C)and LBP 9%(group D)respectively for 28 days. The results of experiment were as follow:(1)comparing with group A,the ADG of group B,C or D decreased by 18.05%(P<0.01),3.97%(P<0.01)or 6.15%(P<0.01)respectively.F/G increased by 19.26%(P<0.01),7.38% (P<0.05)or 13.22%(P<0.01)respectively;The diet inclused LBP had no significant influence on ADFI(P>0.05);Feed Costs for body weight gain in group B,C or D were increased by 19.16%,6.85%or 11.83%of that for group A respectively;(2)comparing with group A,the rate of diarrhea, the frequency of diarrhea and the index of diarrhea of group B,C or D decreased; (3)LBP had no significant influence on serum GLU,BUN,TP,ALB,Glo, A/G;AST,ALT and AST/ALT(P>0.05);(4)The groups of inclused LBP had a trend of raising(P>0.05)TC,TG,HDLC and LDLC in a certain extent;(5) the dietary LBP could improve the apparent digestibility of NFE,ASH,and P in a certain extent(P<0.01),and presented a trend of increasing the apparent digestibility of DM,GE and CP(P<0.05),presented a trend of decreasing the apparent digestibility of CF and EE(P<0.01),but have no significant influence on Ca(P>0.05)Experiment 3:Effects of the diets inclused LBP on performance, carcass quality, serum parameters and apparent digestibility of dietary nutrients were studied in finishing pigs.32 crossbred DLY finishing pigs averaging 75kg in initial body weight were selected and randomly divided into four groups (equal number of males and females per group)by weight with four replicates in each group, each replicate including 2 pigs. These pigs were fed to diets inclused LBP 0%(group A),4%(group B),8%(groupC)and 12% (group D)respectively for 28 days. The results showed that(1)LBP have no significant influence on ADG;F/G and feed costs(P>0.05);(2)The LBP have no significant influence on GLU,BUN,TP,ALB,Glo,A/G,AST,ALT,and AST/ALT(P>0.05);(3)The experiment results presented a trend of increasing the TG,HDLC and LDLC(P>0.05),and a trend of decreasing the TC(P>0.05);(4)LBP have no significant influence on digestibility of dietary DM,NFE,GE,ASH and Ca(P>0.05),but presented a trend of decreasing the digestibility of dietary EE,CF and P(P<0.05);(5)The diets of inclused LBP could improve the carcass quality and meat color in a certain extent(P>0.05);(6)The experiment results presented a trend of increasing the internal organs index, but there were on significant difference (P>0.05)among groups. On the tissue section of kidney and liver, group D have a little pathological changes observing under a microscope,Group B and C have not any changes.
