Flowers are a beautiful gift given to mankind by nature.Flowers are closely related to people's material and spiritual life.At the same time,the flower industry has become a green industry integrating material and spiritual life and a recognized"gold industry".Seed,as the basic resource of agricultural production,is a bottleneck factor affecting flower cultivation and production,which is related to the development prospects and the vicissitude of the flower industry,and is known as"agricultural chip".This paper discusses the problems of low germination rate and uneven germination of the popular flower Verbena hybrid,Salvia splendens and Pelargonium hortorum in China,aiming to provide technical support for the cultivation and production of these flowers.The main research results were as follows:1)Irregular seed vigor was the root cause of the low germination rate and uneven germination of Verbena hybrid,Salvia splendens and Pelargonium hortorum.Small seed size and uneven plumpness,different maturity,large difference in 1000-kernals weight?2.19±0.39g,2.47±0.68g and 4.46±0.42g?,unstable viability of different seed batches as well as genetic differences among different strains were the main reasons affecting the seed vigor of Verbena hybrid,Salvia splendens and Pelargonium hortorum;2)During the seed germination,Verbena hybrid,Salvia splendens and Pelargonium hortorum reached the saturation state in water within 8?10h,and then the soaking time was extended,which caused the seeds to become anaerobic,affected the seed vigor and decreased the seed germination rate;3)Reasonable use of germination promotion technology could improve the seed vigor and the germination rate of Verbena hybrid,Salvia splendens and Pelargonium hortorum and maked the seeds germinate faster and more uniformly,but it was necessary to control the technical parameters such as treatment intensity and time;4)Hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid treatment could improve the water permeability and air permeability of seed coat,increased the germination rate,but the treatment time shouldn't be longer than 15 minutes,and the sulfuric acid concentration shouldn't be greater than 50%.The treatment time of the initiator PEG-6000 shouldn't be too long;the treatment of low concentration GA3and 6-BA significantly increased the seed vigor of the tested plants and promoted germination,but high concentration inhibited germination;5)Moderate hot water soaking treatment could improve the germination rate of the tested plant seeds.The optimal water temperature for processing Verbena hybrid was 50?,Salvia splendens was 55?,and Pelargonium hortorum was 45?;6)Low temperature and high humidity stratification treatment could significantly enhance the seed vigor of Verbena hybrid,Salvia splendens and Pelargonium hortorum and increase the germination rate.The optimal processing time was 40d,30d and 40d in sequence;7)The key factor of using laser and magnetic field to promote germination was processing time,but the longer processing time would interfere with the normal physiological activities of cells,which had a negative effect;8)Summarizing the above factors,breeding improvement,scientific cultivation and accurate seed selection were the fundamental way to ensure the high vigor of Verbena hybrid,Salvia splendens and Pelargonium hortorum seeds.
