Objective: Discuss the effect of modified Tai Chi Yun Shou therapy combined with scalp acupuncture on the improvement of walking function in patients with incomplete spinal cord injury, through observing their recovery conditions after given such combined therapies.Method: Randomize 34 patients into two groups according to their visiting and enrollment order: 17 patients in Yun Shou group,17 patients in control group. With regular rehabilitation therapies applied to both groups, the modified Tai Chi Yun Shou combined with scalp acupuncture were employed in Yun Shou group, while general acupuncture therapy in control group. The treatment cycle lasted for 8 weeks. The following indexes were recorded respectively before treatment,2 weeks,4 weeks,6weeks,and 8 weeks after treatment: Lower Extremity Motor Scores(LEMS),Berg balance scale(BBS),Timed up and go test(TUGT),10 meters' walking test(10MWT),6 minutes ' walking test(6MWT),Holden walking score(HWS),Modified Barthel Index(MBI).Comparing the ecffects on the walking function in patients with incomplete spinal cord injury by modified Tai Chi Yun Shou combined with scalp acupuncture therapy. Results: 1.In Yun Shou group, the LEMS,BBS,6MWT,HWS,and MBI were found apparently increased after(P<0.05),with the TUGT and 10 MWT both decreased(P<0.05).2.In control group, the LEMS,BBS,6MWT,HWS,and MBI were fund apparently increased after(P<0.05),with the TUGT and 10 MWT both decreased(P<0.05).3.Comparison between two groups: The LEMS,6MWT,and HWS increased more apparently in Yun Shou group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in BBS between two groups(P>0.05).TUGT showed no significant difference in 2 and 4weeks between two groups(P>0.05),but significantly decreased in Yun Shou group in6 weeks and 8 weeks(P<0.05).10 MWT decreased more in Yun Shou group(P>0.05).MBI showed no significant difference in 2 weeks between two groups(P>0.05),but significantly increased in Yun Shou group in 4,6 weeks and 8 weeks(P<0.05).Conclusions: 1.Modified The Tai Chi Yun Shou combined with scalp acupuncture therapy showed a definite effect on improving the muscle force of the lower limbs, balancing, walking and self-care abilities in patients with incomplete spinal cord injury.2.The effect of Modified Tai Chi Yun Shou therapy combined with scalp acupuncture is superior to general acupuncture therapy on improving the muscle force of the lower limbs, balancing, walking and self-care abilities in patients with incomplete spinal cord injury.
