Background and Objective:Cerebral infarction is a common disease with high disability rate and high fatality rate. With the increase of the incidence of cerebral infarction and the younger age of onset, the related factors and mechanism of cerebral infarction need to be solved urgently.Atherosclerosis is the main cause and pathogenesis of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. The morphology of atherosclerotic plaques plays an important role in the pathogenesis of symptomatic arterial disease, and plaque morphology has become an important risk factor for the risk of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. There are more and more studies on cerebral infarction and atherosclerosis. In addition to studies on traditional factors such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and obesity, scholars at home and abroad have also found that it is related to the development of atherosclerosis and cerebral infarction.New factors include serum uric acid(SUA)and others. However, there is currently a lack of clinical studies on the relationship between serum uric acid, cerebral infarction, and atherosclerosis.Since blood uric acid has a dual biological role, the relationship between blood uric acid and cerebral infarction and atherosclerosis in domestic and foreign scholars is different.View.This study investigated the relationship between serum uric acid and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with acute atherosclerotic cerebral infarction.Materials and Methods:We retrospectively analyzed 284 patients with acute atherosclerotic cerebral infarction who were hospitalized in our department of neurology from January 2015 to September 2017.All subjects were definitely diagnosed with acute atherosclerotic cerebral infarction. All subjects were given fasting venous blood in the morning and sent to the laboratory for blood uric acid levels. The uric acid levels were divided into four groups by the quartile method.Neck color Doppler ultrasonography was performed on all patients.According to the results of carotid artery ultrasonography, the incidence of carotid atherosclerotic plaques and the incidence of unstable atherosclerotic plaques in carotid arteries were recorded in each talc group. Results:The detection rate of carotid atherosclerosis plaques and the detection rate of unstable plaques were different in patients with different uric acid levels, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Tests using the second quintile(SUA levels between 225-367umol/L)as a reference group showed that the incidence of carotid atherosclerotic plaque and the unstable plaque in the first quantile group, the third quantile group, and the fourth quantile group were all higher incidence than the second quintile, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:The relationship between serum uric acid level and carotid atherosclerosis was U-shaped in patients with acute atherosclerotic cerebral infarction.Excessively high or low uric acid levels were risk factors for carotid atherosclerosis.
