Correlation Study Between Carotid Atherosclerosis And Cerebral Infarction

Objective:To study the correlation between cartiod atheroclerosis and cerebral infarction, and further evaluate the value of color Doppler ultrasound diagnosis of carotid artery atherosclerosis in cerebral infarction .Methods:Carotid ultrasound was performed in eighty cerebral infarction patients to obtain the inner diameter and intima-media thickness,SPV,EDV,RI of common carotid artery,internal carotid artery and external carotid artery ,and to observe the quality and locus of the carotid atherosclerotic plaque,at the same time to analyze the relationship between the plaque and the infarct side,measure the carotid artery stenosis.Compared with sixty healthy individuals as well.Results:The incidence rate of carotid atherosclerosis plaque in cerebral infarction patients (83.8%)was significantly higher than that in the control group(43.3%).With the aging-old and recurring patients of cerebral infaction,the rate of carotid atherosclerosis plaque increased.The rate of carotid artery stenosis (>50%) especially the unstable carotid plaque was significantly higher than that in the control group. Common occurring locus of plaque in descending order were as follows: common carotid artery bifurcation,common carotid artery, internal carotid artery beginning, external carotid artery beginning.Conclusion:Cerebral infarction is closely related to carotid atherosclerosis plaque and its stability.Colour Doppler ultrasound can find the formation of carotid atherosclerosis,measure stenosis, determine the stability of the plaque.It is noninvasive and repeatable ,and benefitial to clinical treatment ,prognosis and treatment time guiding,early treatment and prevention of cerebral infarction,and to improve the level of diagnosis and therapy.
