Curcuma aromatica Salisb.,which belongs to the Zingiberaceae family,is a classic traditional Chinese herb and mainly distribute in Guangxi and Guangdong provinces. It was recorded by Zhuang Nationality Drug Quality standard of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region?2011,Volume II?.It is used as a tonic, carminative or astringent medicine. It can induce menstruation to relieve menalgia in clinical.Sesquiterpenes, diarylheptanoids and diterpene were the major compounds separated from the rhizomes of C.aromatica.Pharmacological studies have shown that the extracts of C.aromatica have antioxidant,antitumor,anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. It is necessary to separate and study more valuable chemical composition of C.aromatica.Objective:To study the chemical constituents and active compounds or lead compounds from C.aromatica, especially those antioxidant, antitumor and antianginal active compounds. This study can provide chemical components for biological activity evaluation and pharmacological research.Methods:70%hydroalcoholic solvents extract of the rhizomes of C.aromatica was subjected to separation and purification by various chromatographicmethods, andtheirstructureswereelucidatedby physico-chemical properties,1H NMR,13C NMR,ESI-MS,HMBC,HSQC,1H-1H COSY,NOESY,IR,UV or compared with reference standard. We reviewed the recent five years literatures on the biological activity and chemical composition of Curcuma, and systematically completed the literatures review. Results:Fourteen compounds were obtained from 70%hydroalcoholic solvents extract of the rhizomes of C.aromatica.These compounds include eleven sesquiterpenes and two diarylheptanoids:aromaticain A?1?,aromaticain B?2?,aromaticain C?3?,curdionolides A?4?,germacrone?5?,zingiberone?6?,phaeocaulisin G?7?,dihydro-derivative procurcumenol?8?,phaeocaulisin E?9?,zedoamndiol?10?,procurcumenol?11?,phacadinane A?12?,curcumin?13?,demethoxycurcumin?14?.Compounds 1-3 were authenticated as new compounds.Compounds 4-9 were isolated from C.aromatica for the first time. Conclusion:This research can provide scientific theories and chemical experiment basis for the further development of C.aromatica.
