Objective: To investigate the microstructure changes in persistent vegetable state by using the new technology of Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging(DKI)Methods: conventional MRI and DKI were performed in 20 age-matched normal volunteers and 15 patients with VS which are collected. The MK、MD in thalamus, internal capsule, corpus callosum, the corpus callosum, the bilateral temporal cortex and the brain stem were quantified using DKI.Results:the mean kurtosis(MK)value of the thalamus, corpus callosum, the bilateral temporal cortex and the brain stem were significantly lower than those in the normal control group(P < 0.05).The mean kurtosis(MD)value of the thalamus, internal capsule, corpus callosum, the corpus callosum, the bilateral temporal cortex and the brain stem were significantly higher than those in the normal control group(P < 0.05).Conclusion: DKI can provide objective referential indexes for the trauma extent and range in VS.
