Background: With the development of economy and the acceleration of social aging, cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death and is a significant burden world-wide.The prevalence of hypertension(HTN)has racial difference.Tujia is the main minority in Chongqing area.Exploring the prevalence, awareness rate, control rate and related risk factors of hypertension in Tujia and Han nationality has a great significance for the prevention and treatment of hypertension in Chongqing.Aim: To explore the national difference of hypertension prevalence, awareness, treatment, control and associated risk factors between Han and Tujia populations in Chongqing and provide the scientific basis for better preventing and treatment of hypertension and give a solid base for policymakers to make reimbursement policy for public health service.Method: Considering both urban and rural development and economic development, stratified multistage random sampling method was adopted to conduct the questionnaire survey and physical examination on 14902 permanent residents from 8 districts or countries of Chongqing area during 2012-2015.Data on basic personal information, such as age, ethnic, and blood pressure, pulse, waist circumference were collected and analyzed.Binary Logistic regression was used to find potential risk factors of hypertension. Results: The prevalence of hypertension was high and the rates of awareness, treatment, control and control in treatment were low in Chongqing area.Hypertension prevalence, awareness, treatment and control were23.7%?45.5%?35.5%?11.2% and 24.1% respectively.Compared with Han,the prevalence of hypertension in Tujia was reduced approximately 10%(24.8% vs 14.5%).Although the differences of awareness and treatment rates between the two groups were not significant, the rates of control and control in treatment were significantly higher in Tujia than Han(p<0.05).Age group analysis demonstrated that the prevalence of hypertension was lower in Tujia than Han in all age groups(p<0.05).Gender group analysis found that the effect of gender on the prevalence of hypertension was attenuated in Tujia than Han(p<0.05).Logistic analysis revealed that the distributions of risk factors relating to hypertension were different between the two groups and the risk factors of Tujia were less than Han.Gender, salt intake, drinking and education were risk factors for Han but not for Tujia, while smoking was risk factor for Tujia but not for Han.Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension is lower in Tujia than ethnic Han.The distributions of risk factors relating to hypertension are different between the two groups.
