Objective:Effects of antioxidant and antibacterial activities in butanol extract of Spirulina were investigated. Methods: The contents of phenol and flavonoids in the extract of n-butanol from Spirulina platensis were determined by spectrophotometer, and the scavenging rates of DPPH OH and nitrite were determined.Oxidative protection of low density lipoprotein(LDL)and antibacterial activity of n-butanol extract from Spirulina platensis were determined by disk diffusion method. Results:The biomass of spirulina was 115.0 ±4.1mg Gallic acid equivalent / 100 g in total phenol content and 23.7 ±1.8mg rutin equivalent / 100 g flavonoid content in spirulina extract. The antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of spirulina n-butanol extract is:(1)it has certain scavenging ability to DPPH·(1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazinyl hydroxyl and nitrite-)it has protective effect on the oxidation of low density lipoprotein. Both positive and Gram-negative bacteria have antimicrobial activity. Conclusion: Spirulina n-butanol extract has strong antioxidant and antibacterial activity.Spirulina n-butanol extract can effectively scavenge DPPH·,OH· and nitrite and inhibit the oxidation of low density lipoprotein in a dose-effect relationship. The inhibitory effect on Gram-positive bacteria was greater than that on Gram-negative bacteria. |
