Meta-analysis Of The Association Between MTHFR C677T And A1298C Polymorphisms And Male Infertility In Asia Summary

Objective: To assess whether the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR)gene C677T(rs1801133)and A1298C(rs1801131)polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to male infertility in Asia.Methods:From the establishment of the database to December 2017,complete search by keyword in the PubMed,CNKI,CBM,Wanfang,and VIP databases to select the available genotypes for C677 T and A1298 C Frequency of case-control study.Meta analysis using Stata 12.0 software.Results: Twenty-two C677T(5333 and 4596 controls)and 11 A1298C(2555 and 2360 controls)were included in this study.In the C677 T,there are heterogeneities in the genotypes,and the I2 see(Table 3),considering a variety of factors will cause male infertility such as individual susceptibility,race,nutritional status,and environment.We cannot assess the source of heterogeneity,so use a random effects model.The results showed a correlation between MTHFR C677 T polymorphism and susceptibility to male infertility in Asians(T/C: OR=1.32,95%CI:1.13-1.53,P=0.000),(TT/CC: OR=1.74(95% CI: 1.23 to 2.44,P=0.000),(CT+TT/CC: OR=1.40,95% CI: 1.22-1.60,P=0.001),(TT/CT+CC: OR=1.48,95)%CI: 1.07-2.03,P=0.000).There was no significant heterogeneity in all genotypes in A1298 C,and the I2 was found(Table 4).A fixed effect model was used.The results showed that the MTHFR gene A1298 C polymorphism was not associated with susceptibility to male infertility in Asia(C/A: OR=1.08,95% CI: 0.98-1.19,P=0.516),(CC/AA:OR=1.08,95% CI: 0.81-1.42,P=0.328),(AC+CC/AA: OR=1.12,95%CI:0.99-1.27,P=0.722),(CC/AC+AA: OR=1.03,95%CI: 0.81-1.30,P=0.502).Conclusions:The MTHFR C677 T polymorphism may increase the risk of susceptibility to male infertility in Asia,whereas the MTHFR A1298 C polymorphism does not increase the risk of susceptibility to male infertility in Asian men.
