ObjectiveThe objectives of this trial were as follows: 1.To explore new regimens for the treatment and nursing of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy and qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome;2.To explore changes of clinical signs and symptoms and the quality of life with scores of each dimension in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy and qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome who were treated with both Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress and wax therapy on signs and symptoms 3.To compare the improvement of clinical signs and symptoms and the quality of life with scores of each dimension in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy and qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome who were treated with both Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress and wax therapy or was therapy only.4.To develop and spread the combined method of both Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress and wax therapy for the treatment and nursing of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy and qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome based on the clinical findings, promoting the development of nursing skills of TCM feature.Method1.Screened with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, total 99 qualified subjects were recruited in this trial from the hospitalized patients of the Endocrinology Department of the Teaching Hospital of TCM.The enrolled patients were randomized into 3 groups: the control group, the wax therapy group and the combined regimen group with both wax therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress.2.Intervention was carried out respectively in the 3 groups.Routine dietary control, oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin were prescribed for the patients in the 3 groups to achieve a steady blood glucose level. In the control group, treatment was given according to the protocol of Manual of Standardized Procedure for the Nursing and Treatment of Diabetic Foot drafted by CDS in 2015 for 4 weeks. In the wax therapy group, patients received additional wax plate placed on the feet once per day and 5 days per week in a period of 4 weeks. In the combined regimen group, patients were given both wax therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress once per day and 5 days per week in the same period of 4 weeks.3.Evaluation was made before and after the observation. The period of intervention was 4 weeks in each group. Then the evaluation of these results was made in these groups.Therapeutic parameters were observed with TCSS,TCM symptom scaling,DMQS and MNSI.Result1.Baseline information: There were no difference in sex, age, marriage status, career, education and specialized data in subjects of each group(P>0.05).There were no difference in TCSS score,TCM syndrome score,MNSI score and each dimension score of DMQLS in subjects of each group before the intervention(P >0.05).Therefore the data in the three groups were comparable.2.Intra-group comparison before and after the intervention: TCSS score,TCM syndrome score,MNSI score and total score of DMQLS were compared within each group before and after the intervention. The results showed that there were difference in the control group, the wax therapy group and the combined regimen group with both wax therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress.(P<0.05).Therefore it was proved that there were therapeutic effects in the control group, the wax therapy group and the combined regimen group with both wax therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress.3.Inter-group comparison before and after the intervention: TCSS score,TCM syndrome score,MNSI score and total score of DMQLS were compared among the three groups after the intervention. The results showed that there were difference in the aforementioned respects before and after the intervention in each group(P<0.05).Therefore it was proved that there was difference in therapeutic effects among the three groups.4.Mutiple comparison after the intervention: TCSS score,TCM syndrome score,MNSI score and total score of DMQLS were compared among the three groups after the intervention. The results showed that there were no difference in TCM syndrome score between the control group and the wax therapy group(P>0.05),while there were difference in other respects among the three groups(P<0.05).Therefore it was proved that the therapeutic effect of the combined regimen group with both wax therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine moistened compress was better than that of pestle needle, and that of wax therapy was better than that of the control.Conclusion1.Clinical signs and symptoms was relieved in patients with DPN,and the improvement in the combined group was more obvious than that in the wax therapy group, while the improvement in the wax group was more obvious than that in the control group.2.The regimen of combined both wax therapy and TCM moistened compress could relieve the numbness and cold sensation in the extremities of patients with DPN and qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. This regimen could also improve the quality of life and satisfaction on the therapeutic results.3.The effect of using combined both wax therapy and TCM moistened compress to nursing DPN patients is better than only using wax therapy to nursing DPN patients,so the method of combined both wax therapy and TCM moistened compress is well worth of promoting.4.The external use of TCM liquid was a commonly used and effective method for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.Wax therapy was one of the basic nursing skills in TCM and it was also and effective treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The combined regimen of these two methods as TCM moistened compress and wax therapy could significantly improve the effect on the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. This combined regimen was worthy being spread clinically for the treatment of DPN.
