Periodontitis has severe influence on people's quality of life, however, few medical material have been found for the treatment of periodontitis till recent. As poly(lactic-acid)(PLA)is biodegradable and absorptive in vivo, recently it is used as periodontitis isolation pad as a new approach of treatment. In this study,we prepared the PLA/PLGA composite bone membrane by using high molecular weight polymer PLGA and low molecular weigh polymer PLA.The minimum tensile strength guaranteed the reqirement for periodontal bone mat in the PLA/PLGA quality ratio ranging from 2:1 to10:1.The barrier membrane material prepared showed the pores in size of2-5 ?m and porosity high above 90%.It is advantageous for the nutrients pass into and metabolic waste get away from the mat,and might favoured the gingival fibroblasts adhering to and growing on the the membrane surface, yet being not able to penetrate across the membrane to the reverse side. The composite membrane has biological compatibility and mechanical barrier function. The material underwent slow degradation in vitro, maintaining for 16 weeks, and vanishing form more than 6 months, this met the time requirements of barrier for osseous healing. In addition, the bone mat wassafe and reliable as oral implant materials,as it did not contain harmful heavy metals. As composite membrane had excellent properities of mechanical performance, hydrophilicity, controllability, biological safety, biocompatibility, biodegradation and barrier function,it could be used as a kind of dental restorations membrane. This study provided theoretical basis and data for further clinical trials.
