The Efficacy Of Acupuncture At The Combination Of He-Mu-Point Or At Front-Mu Point Alone For Functional Dyspepsia

ObjectiveTo evaluate the differences in the theraputic effect of puncturing at the Front-Mu point and at the combination of the Lower-He and the Front-Mu point(He-Mu points combination)treating for Functional Dyspepsia(FD)patients.MethodsThis study included 70 FD patients,which were randomly divided into two groups: Group A(needling at RN12: the Front-Mu point of stomach),Group B(needling at both ST36 and RN12: the He-Mu points combination).Manual acupuncture was performed at these points respectively five times a week and totally for 20 days.The Nepean Dyspepsia Symptom Index(NDSI),Nepean Dyspepsia Life Quality Index(NDLQI)and Symptom Index of Dyspepsia(SID)were used to evaluate the clinical efficacy before and after acupuncture treatment in two groups.The Zung Self-Rating anxiety Scale(SAS)and the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)were used to detect the emotional state of FD patients before and after treatment in each group.All data were analyzed by SPSS22.0 software.Results1.Sixty-two patients had finished this study.2.There were no statistical differences in baseline data of the two groups(P>0.05).3.The clinical evaluation of acupuncture for FD in two groups.(1)the NDSI scores of these two groups significantly decreased after the treatment;There was insignificant statistical difference in improving NDSI scores between Group A and Group B(P>0.05)after treatment.(2)Acupuncture at those points in two groups could significantly improve NDLQI(P<0.05)of FD patients after the treatment.But only the improvement of NDLQI in group B was valuable in clinic(>10 points).There was significant difference in the score of the understanding and control field between Group A and Group B after treatment.(3)The SID scores in both group decreased significantly after treatment.There was insignificant statistical difference in the improvement of SID scores between Group A and Group B(P>0.05)after treatment.4.The influence of acupuncture on SAS and SDS scores in two groups.The SAS scores and the SDS scores decreased significantly in both groups after treatment(P<0.05);There was insignificant difference in improving anxiety and depression state between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions1.Acupuncture at Front-Mu point and the He-Mu points combination can significantly improve clinical symptoms,Quality of Life(QoL)and emotional state,2.Acupuncture at the He-Mu points combination shows better effect for improving the QoL of FD patients compared to acupuncture at Front-Mu point alone because only the improvement of NDLQI in group B is clinically valuable,and the group B showed better effect in the QoL in understanding and control field than Group A.3.The synergistic effect of the He-Mu points combination treating for FD might have some limitations and conditions.
