Background The nurse’s safety behavior affects the patients’ state.Nursing work is highly professional,risky,time-consuming,wide-ranging and painstaking. For nurses who are working at the clinical line, almost 90% of relevant works during a patient’s treatment in hospital require their cooperation. Therefore, the safety behavior of nurse matters a lot for implementation of works that ensures patients’ safety. In the process of medical service, nursing negligence has become a major source of potential accidents. It is of great significance to understand the status of nurses’ safety behavior and explore the mechanism of related factors of nurses’ safety behavior. Objectives To research on the present situation of nurses’ safety behavior, head nurses’ leadership, organizational support, patients’ safety culture perception, also the intention and cognition to report their wrongdoings in a 3A class hospital in Anhui Province, and analyze the interrelation and interaction among them;to discuss the intermediary role of patients’ safety culture perception between head nurses’ leadership and nurses’ safety behavior, and between organizational support and nurses’ safety behavior so as to provide empirical evidence for nursing managers to make managing policies and improve nurses’ safety behavior in an object and accurate way. Methods The study is based on a cross-section research,of which the respondents are 532 nurses selected from a 3A class hospital in Anhui Province. We adopt questionnaires of demographic data, nurses’ safety behavior, patients’ safety culture perception, head nurses’ leadership, organizational support and nurses’ intention and cognition to report their wrongdoings to learn about the relating issues. The data were collected on the platform of Wen Juan Xing, and the respondents filled out the survey independently, instructed by a single and same introduction.Getting the permission of all the participants,we used EpiData to input the collected data and to check the process by two members. Finally we used SPSS21.0 to do the statistical analysis and to show the discrepancy in a statistical level: P<0.05.Results 1.The average total score of 532 nurses’ safety behavior is(53.01 ±6.59),which is a bit higher than the middle level, reflecting the relatively high level of the nurses’ safety behavior in the involved hospital. The average total score of the head nurse’s leadership is(70.02 ±24.44),which was in the middle level, reflecting that there still exists room for improvement in their way and ability of management. The patients’ culture perception score is(84.64 ±14.26),also at a upper middle level, showing that the atmosphere is quite encouraging for nurse’s safety work. While the scores of organizational support, nurse’s cognition and intention for reporting the accidents are respectively(38.60±12.38),(9.14±2.24),and(16.83±4.09),.According to the general demographic characteristics, the safety behavior scores of nurses who are different in age, length of employment, level, title, position, original educational level, and types of establishment are of statistical sense.2.Nurses’ safety behavior score is positively correlated with that of head nurses’ leadership(r =0.415,P<0.01),patients’ safety culture perception(r =0.417,P<0.01),organizational support(r=0.327,P<0.01),reporting negative correlation(r =-0.227,P<0.001),and reporting negative correlation(r =-0.168,P<0.001);The score of head nurse’s leadership is positively correlated with the score of safety culture perception(r=0.595,P<0.01),organizational support(r=0.555,P<0.01),and reporting intention(r=0.094,P<0.05);and there is a positive correlation between patients’ culture perception and organizational support(r=0.680,P<0.01),patients’ culture perception is negative correlated with reporting intention(r=-0.169,P<0.01),organizational support is negative correlated with reporting intention(r=-0.138,P<0.01),reporting intention is positively correlated with reporting cognition(r=0.548,p<0.01).3.The dependent variable is the nurse’s safety behavior, while the independent variable relates to the demographic data(age, working length, original educational level, rank, job title, position, and the establishment type),the perception of the safety culture of nurses,as well as the diverse leading behavior of head nurses, organizational support, reporting intention and cognition.Model led by analysis of multiple linear regression explains the 31.2% variance of samples in the whole, which is of statistical meaning(F=12.299,P<0.001).Among them the highest educational level, rank, daily working hours, head nurses’ leading behavior and the culture perception of patients can positively predict nurses’ safety behavior(P<0.05).4.The Intermediary effect test and regression equation analysis reveals that the intermediary effect of patients’ safety culture perception on head nurses’ leadership and safety behavior occupies 40.4% in the whole, and that on the patients’ safety culture perception and nurses’ safety behavior is 84.5% of the overall effects. Conclusion 1.The safety behavior of nurses in the involved 3A class hospital in Anhui Province is at the upper middle level.Among them, scores of "I will pay attention to whether my colleagues abide by the safety regulations" and " when noticing someone violate the rule,I will remind them even if they are senior ones," rank the lowest, with a score of(3.83 ±0.958)and(3.88 ±1.034)respectively.The result tells that nurses should give priority to the exemplary role of those experienced ones.2.The leadership of head nurses, patients’ perception of safety culture, the organizat-ional support, reporting intention and cognition of undesirable accidents can positive-ly predict nurses’ safety behavior;while the patients’ perception of safety culture serves as an intermediate variable between nurses’ safety behavior and head nurses’ diverse leading behavior;and patients’ perception of safety culture is the interme-diary between organizational support and nurses’ safety behavior. Therefore, the hospital is suggested to adopt various intervention policies to improve nurses’ percep-of safety culture, thus perfecting nurses’ safety behavior, ensuring patients’ safety and improving the nursing quality.
