Objective The purpose of this study is to understand the current situation of childhood psychological abuse and neglect in Hong Kong and to explore the influence of childhood psychological abuse and neglect on physical health,mental health,social health and coping styles of young people in Hong Kong.Methods Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect relevant data.In the questionnaire,410 subjects were investigated by General Questionnaire,Children's Psychological Abuse and Neglect Scale,Self-rated Health Rating Scale and Simple Coping Style Questionnaire.The collected data were analyzed using statistical software SPSS.In terms of interviews,a semi-structured interview outline was formed by reading literature and combining research objectives.After that,appropriate participants were selected for interviews.Results the data obtained were combined and analyzed.The results are as follows:(1)Neglect has significant differences in gender,and boys score higher than girls in all dimensions.(2)In terms of family structure,there are significant differences in interference,neglect subscale,emotional neglect,and physical supervision neglect.The scores of single-parent families are significantly higher than that of general families.(3)There is a significant difference in the body weight of Hong Kong youth in their experience of childhood psychological abuse and neglect.(4)There were significant differences in the physical and mental health of young people in Hong Kong in terms of their experiences of childhood psychological abuse and neglect.The scores of the non-abused group are all higher than the abused group,and there is a significant negative correlation between the experiences of abuse and the dimensions of mental and physical health.(5)Psychological abuse and neglect are significantly positively correlated with negative coping,and childhood psychological abuse and neglect experiences are significantly different in negative coping styles.Conclusion(1)There are significant differences in childhood psychological abuse and neglect experiences in terms of gender,family structure and body weight.(2)Childhood psychological abuse and neglect experiences have a negative impact on Hong Kong youth's physical health,mental health,and social health,and hinder the individual's mental and physical development.(3)Hong Kong youth with experience of childhood psychological abuse and neglect are more likely to adopt negative methods and strategies in facing frustration and pressure.
