Objective To investigate the risk factors of deep venous thrombosis(DVT)in patients with trauma, and to characterize the relationship between ABO blood type and DVT in trauma patients. Methods A retrospective cohort study was performed from January to December in 2014 in the emergency intensive care unit(EICU)of the hospital.the medical history, blood test records,ISS score,AIS score and RAPT score were recorded at admission.Lower extremity vascular ultrasound and blood flow Doppler imaging would be finished at the first day and seventh day after injury.According to ABO blood types, patients were divided into O blood group and non-O blood group.Comparison for the incidence of developing DVT was made between those two groups. Then logistic regression was used to characterize the association between blood-types and the development of DVT in trauma patients stratified by age,as well as ISS.Result 200 trauma patients were enrolled in the cohort. And 31 patients(15.5%)were observed with the deep venous thrombosis(DVT).There was no significant differences in age,ISS,RAPT,AIS and heparin between O group and non-O group.Logistic regression model was used to analyze the risk factors of DVT post injury. After controlling for all important con-founders,patients in non-O blood group had a about 3-times(OR=2.997,95%CI,1.104-8.137,P=0.031)greater risk of developing DVT than patients in O group. In the middle-aged group(40?age<65),patients in non-O blood group had a significant greater incidence(OR=4.848,95%CI1.162-20.233,P=0.030)than the O blood group. And non-O blood group had a significant greater incidence(OR=5.649,95% CI 1.132,28.185,P = 0.035)than the O blood group in severe trauma patients(ISS?25);whereas the blood-types had no significant association(OR=1.814,95% CI 0.277-11.905,P = 0.533)with the development of DVT in moderately severe trauma patients(9?ISS?24).Conclusion severe trauma patients has a high incidence of developing DVT.Compared to non-O group, patients with O blood-type has a significant lowerincidence of developing DVT,especially in the middle-aged patients(age < 40 < 65)and severe trauma patients(ISS?25).Moreover,the age and the injuries of the lower extremity and the pelvic are independent risk factors for the development of DVT after injury.
