Objective:To investigate the safety and effectiveness of breast conserving surgery by comparing the short-term effects of breast conserving surgery and modified radical mastectomy of early-stage breast cancer. Methods:The clinical data of 57 patients undergoing early-stage breast cancer surgery in our hospital from July 2017 to March 2018 were retrospective reviewed.According to the different surgical methods, the patients were divided into breast conserving surgery(BCS)group and modified radical mastectomy(MRM)group. The surgical related clinical indicators, quality of life scores, social function scores and emotional state scores of the two groups were compared.SPSS l8.0 statistical software was used for data statistical analysis. The measurement data were compared with t test, and the numeration data were compared withc~2test or Fisher accurate probability test.If P<0.05,the difference was statistically significant. Results:There was no significant difference in the general data of age,BMI index, degree of education and tumor length in the MRM group and the BCS group(P>0.05),but there was a slight difference in tumor TNM stage(P<0.05).The operation time, intraoperative bleeding, the time and volume of catheter drainage and the hospitalization time were less in BCS group than MRM group(P<0.05).The number of lymph node dissection was more in MRM group(17.91±4.39 vs 15.28±4.49,P<0.05).The rate of complications in MRM group was 12.5%,and the complication rate in BCS group was 4%.The incidence of complications in MRM group was higher than that in BCS group, but there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).In addition,The score of Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast(FACT-B)in BCS group was higher than that in MRM group(P<0.05),and the scores of Social Disability Screening Schedule(SDSS)and Profile of Mood States-Short Form(POMS-SF)in BCS group were lower than those in MRM group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Breast conserving surgery is as safe and effective as modified radical mastectomy for early-stage breast cancer, but breast conserving surgery has the advantages of less trauma and faster recovery after surgery.Furthermore, breast conserving surgery can satisfy the aesthetic requirements due to preserving the breast,so the patients received breast conserving surgery have higher quality of life, social function and emotional state postoperatively. Therefore, breast conserving surgery is worth extensively promoted and applied due to the less psychological and physiological burden on the patients.
