Background: Accumulating evidence has revealed that serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT)or serum uric acid(UA)are closely related to insulin resistance, lipid metabolism and oxidative stress. However,it is unclear whether the coexistence of ALT and UA accelerates the risk of metabolic syndrome and its components. The main purpose of this study was to study the prevalence of metabolic syndrome demonstrate in Tiexi, shen yang Community elderly residents and the effects of ALT,UA and their combined effects on Mets and their components. Methods: From May to October 2017,we randomly selected nine communities in Tiexi, shen yang, for a cross-sectional study. After excluding unqualified participants,3998participants(1434 males and 2564 females)were included in our study, all of whom were older than 60 years old.Serum ALT and UA were divided into tripartite. We used logistic regression analysis to assessment the effects of serum ALT,UA and its combination on Mets, which was defined by NCEP-ATPIII.Results: In this study, the prevalence of Mets was 43.2% in males and 61.9% in females. After adjustment by multivariable logistic regression, the prevalence and OR values of Mets and each component all showed an increasing trend with the increase of ALT and UA levels. The odds ratio(OR)values of Mets in the ALT tripartite 2–3 groups were1.329(95% CI: 1.137–1.554),2.362(95% CI: 2.006–2.781),and OR in the UA tripartite2–3groups were 1.718(95% CI: 1.466–2.015),2.743(95% CI: 2.310–3.256).There were combined effects for tripartite of both ALT and UA in association with Mets, the OR values of group 2-9 ranged from 1.494-5.889,all P < 0.05.Conclusions: In the elderly population in tiexi district, shenyang, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome is high.ALT and UA are independent risk factors of metabolic syndrome, and ALT and UA have greater correlation with Mets and its components, which is better than a single index.
