| Objective: The aim of this study was to understand the prevalence of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause in Jilin by describing the demographic characteristic,the clinical symptoms,the therapeutic measures and the cognitive degree of women with Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause,to provide basic information and reference basis for popularizing Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause,the new term for vulvovaginal atrophy.Methods: The survey was conducted among 103 women with Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause aged 45-65 who visited the Affiliated Hospital of Beihua University in Jilin,from June 2018 to December 2018.All the qualified respondents were surveyed face to face using a unified paper questionnaire by the trained gynecologist.Finally,95 valid questionnaires were collected.The content of research included: demographic characteristic,the modified Kupperman Index,the clinical symptoms,the diagnosis,the therapeutic measures and the cognitive degree of women with Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause.Epidata 3.0software was used to establish a database and data analysis performed using SPSS20.0 statistical analysis software.Results:In total,103 women were recruited with 95 completed validly.The effective respond rate was 92.23%.1.The prevalence and distribution of perimenopausal syndrome: the modified Kupperman scoring Index was used in 95 subjects,with an average of 16.7± 8.9.Insomnia(74.7%),vaginal dryness(71.6%)and nervousness(69.5%)were the top 3 common symptoms.The other symptoms that bothered more than half of the respondents were melancholia,fatigue,arthralgia,and libido decrease.The differences between 45-55 year-old group and 56-65 year-old group in the incidence rate of hot flash,palpitation and libido decrease were statistically significant(P < 0.05).2.The prevalence and distribution of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause: Pruritus vulvae(83.2%),pruritus of vagina(74.7%)and nocturia(73.7%)were the top 3 common symptoms.3.Current conditions of diagnosis therapeutic measures :Of the 95,35.8 percent went to hospital,while only 15.8% of respondents were diagnosed.44.2% respondents took therapeutic measures,and most of them chose Chinese medicinal herb treatment.Hormone replacement therapy accounted for 14.7% of respondents.4.The cognitive degree of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause: the majority(80%)attributed the symptoms to perimenopause and 24.2% of the respondents knew of Hormone replacement therapy.Compared with the 56-65 year-old group,the 45-56 year-old group had a higher awareness of relevant terms and a higher willingness to learn more about the knowledge related to Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause,and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0,05).Conclusion:1.The incidence rate of perimenopausal syndrome was high.The differences between 45-55 year-old group and 56-65 year-old group in the incidence rate of hot flash,palpitation and libido decrease were statistically significant(P < 0.05).2.The symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause are complex.pruritus vulvae,pruritus of vagina and nocturia were the top 3 common symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause,which bothered women seriously and which gynecologists should pay enough attention to.3.Perimenopausal woman’s health consciousness was weak.Intensifying women’s health knowledge and promoting healthy lifestyle will improve the quality of their life and extend the life of women.4.Despite the impact on women’s sexual health and quality of life,Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause remained underdiagnosed andundertreated among the respondents.5.As the discussion with gynecologists appeared to be a factor influencing women’s and treatment status,a more active role by gynecologists to learn about the new term was needed.Gynecologists,whose careers are dedicated to reproductive health care available to all women,should frontier their understanding of industry dynamic to make better contributions to women’s health. |
