Objective: To study the accuracy of plasma galectin-3 level in predicting recurrences of non-valvular persistent atrial fibrillation after cryoballoon ablation, and to provide a more objective and accurate index for predicting recurrences. Methods: Plasma concentrations of galectin-3 were determined by using enzyme linked immune response in patients with non-valvular persistent atrial fibrillation underwent percutaneous cryoballoon ablation for the first time in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University in June 2016 to January 2018.The patients were divided into relapse group and recurrence group according to whether the postoperative recurrence.Collecting data on the hospitalization and follow-up.Comparison of clinical characteristics and biochemical indicators between two groups to screen predictors of recurrence of non-valvular persistent atrial fibrillation after cryoballoon ablation. Results: A total of 97 patients were included, with a mean galectin-3 rate was 2.07±0.33ng/mL.It’s no significant difference in gender, age, early recurrence, left ventricular end-diastolic volume between the relapsed group and the non-relapsed group(P>0.05).The plasma galectin-3 level, course of disease and left atrial diameter of the recurrence group were all higher than the non-recurrence group, and with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Left atrial diameter ≥ 40 mm,galectin-3 ≥ 1.94ng/ml and course of disease ≥ 17 months are relatively accurate objective indicators for predicting the recurrence of non-valvular persistent atrial fibrillation after cryoballoon ablation, and it increases with increasing risk factors(P<0.05).Conclusions: Plasma galectin-3 ≥ 1.94ng/ml is a positive predictor of recurrence after cryoballoon ablation in patients with non-valvular persistent atrial fibrillation.Plasma galectin-3 levels may be helpful in selecting patients with non-valvular persistent atrial fibrillation who are most suitable for cryoballoon ablation;Plasma galectin-3 level, left atrial diameter and course of disease were all independent risk factors for recurrence for cryoballoon ablation of non-valvular persistent atrial fibrillation after 3 years.Recurrence risk increases with increasing risk factors.
