Objective:To investigate the correlation between before/after surgery serum neuro-specific enolase(NSE)levels with surgical brain injury and prognosis in glioma patients Methods:Selected 48 cases of brain glioma were treated by surgery in the neuroencepha-lic clinical center of xinjiang medical university.Serum NSE level was detected on 1d before operation and 1,3,7d after operation, and make compared;Clinical and imaging data of the patients were collected, and Karnofsky(KPS)score was performed 6 months after the operation. The correlation between serum NSE level with tumor volume, brain edema volume and KPS functional score was analyzed by Pearson or Spearman.Results:(1)The serum NSE levels of 1d before surgery and 1,3,7d after surgery were(12.98±2.61),(15.07±2.34),(18.20±4.31),(15.20±3.94)ng/mL,difference was statistically significant F(3,141)=17.922,(P<0.01);(2)The serum NSE 1d after surgery compared with 1d before was significantly increased by 2.09ng/mL(95%CI:0.76-3.423)(P<0.05);After 3d increased significantly by 3.13ng/mL(95%ci:1.224-5.039)(P<0.05);After 7d downed significantly by 3.00ng/mL(95%CI:1.043-4.965)(P<0.05);(3)There was no statistically significant difference in serum NSE level between different sites and different grades of tumor patients before and after surgery(P>0.05);(4)Preoperative serum NSE level was positively correlated with peritumor edema volume(r2=0.757,P=0.0001),but not with tumor volume(r1=190,P=0.195).Serum NSE level at 3 days after surgery was positively correlated with cerebral edema volume at 3d after surgery(rs1=0.553,P=0.002),and serum NSE level at 7 days after surgery was negatively correlated with KPS score(80 points)at 6 months after surgery(rs2=-0.821,P=0.001).Conclusion:Serum NSE can be used to assist in the assessment of perioperative changes in patients with glioma.
