Objective:Lipiodol is the classical embolization material in transarterial chemoembolization, while Calli Spheres drug-eluting beads is a recently emerged embolization material. The safety and efficacy of two embolization materials in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma are compared and analyzed to providing reference for the specific selection of interventional therapy.Materials and Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed on 48 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent transarterial chemoembolization.According to the different embolization materials, the patients were divided into 23 patients in the experimental group(drug-eluting beads group,DEB-TACE group)and 25 patients in the control group(Lipiodol group,c TACE group). There was no significant difference in baseline clinical data between the two groups, and the postoperative treatment was basically similar. The postoperative adverse reactions, changes in liver function, changes in alpha fetoprotein and short-term efficacy of one month after the operation were compared and analyzed between the two groups to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the drug-eluting beads system.Results:1.The incidence of gastrointestinal reactions in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(Z=-2.277,p=0.023).There were no statistically significant differences in the three adverse reactions of abdominal pain, fever and liver abscess between the two groups.2.The levels of alanine aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and total bilirubin in the two groups were significantly increased three days after operation compared with that before operation, and the difference was statistically significant. The indexes returned to the preoperative level when reexamination onemonth after the operation.Three days after the operation, the level of aspartate transaminase in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(t=2.175,p = 0.035).Three days after the operation, the levels of alanine aminotransferase and total bilirubin in the experimental group were slightly higher than those in the control group, and the differences were not statistically significant.3.The decrease rate of alpha-fetoprotein in the experimental group was 89%,and that in the control group was 76%.The difference between the two groups was not statistically significant(c2=0.473,p=0.492).4.The objective response rate was 87% in the experimental group and 56% in the control group, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(c2=5.55,p=0.018).The disease control rate of the experimental group was91%,and that of the control group was 80%,the difference was not statistically significant(c2=0.489,p=0.484).Conclusion:1.The incidence and degree of postoperative gastrointestinal reactions in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group, application of drug-eluting beads in transarterial chemoembolization can alleviate postoperative gastrointestinal reactions in patients.2.The liver function levels of the patients in the experimental group and the control group were both increased in a short period after operation, but they all returned to the baseline level in the reexamination one month after operation. There was no significant difference in liver function test between the drug-eluting beads and Lipiodol.3.According to the modified response evaluation criteria in solid tumors, the imaging examination of patient at one month after operation showed that the objective response rate of the experimental group was better than the control group, suggesting that the short-term efficacy of the experimental group was better.
