Objective:To study the effect of intravenous glucocorticoids on the absolute count of peripheral blood lymphocytes in AECOPD patients. Methods:A retrospective study was conducted on 96 patients admitted to the general ward of the department of respiratory medicine of the first hospital of jilin university from January 2014 to December 2019 who were definitely diagnosed as acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and received glucocorticoids during their hospitalization.Subjects were included in group A(<1.1×10~9/L)and group B(≥1.1×10~9/L)according to the absolute lymphocyte count in patients before glucocorticoids treatment. The changes of absolute lymphocyte count after intravenous administration of glucocorticoid were compared between the two groups. At the same time, the general information of the patients, the relative indicators of the severity of the disease, the status of the glucocorticoids treatment program and other treatments were collected, and the comparison between the two groups was conducted to analyze the related factors that may affect the absolute lymphocyte count except glucocorticoids.Result:There was no significant difference between the two groups in age,sex ratio, smoking history, time of diagnosis of COPD,and glucocorticoids treatment regimen(P>0.05).After glucocorticoids treatment, the absolute lymphocyte count in group A was higher than before, while that in group B was lower than before.Among them, the absolute lymphocyte count measured before and after glucocorticoids treatment in group B was greater. After treatment, the absolute lymphocyte count in group A was still lower than that in group B.There was no significant difference in the overall length of stay between the two groups. Conclusion:Intravenous glucocorticoid treatment of AECOPD had an effect on the absolute lymphocyte count. In patients with pre-treatment lymphocyte count below the normal range, glucocorticoid treatment did not lead to lower lymphocyte count and generally benefited the patients.
