Objection: To study the effectiveness and safety of talc in management of chylous fistula following neck dissection.Method: A total of 1149 cases underwent neck lymph node dissection between 2002 and 2017 in Shanghai No.6 hospital were analyzed,in which 42 chylous fistula occurred.Twenty cases were managed by conventional strategies. We use talc in the remaining 22 cases. The incidence, risk factors and the outcomes were investigated.Result: The average drainage of the talc group and the control group in the initial 3 days after surgery were 299.30(±96.87)m L/day and 279.50(±104.13)m L/day respectively. The total drainage were 963.09(±421.07)m L versus 1008.90(±507.50)m L.The average time we remove the drainage tube were 13.36 days in the talc group and 19.65 days in the control group respectively. Conclusion: Talc is a novel approach to the management of mediumvolume chyle leakage following neck lymph node dissection. The safety and the effectiveness were well demonstrated. The accurate indication of talc needs further investigation.
