The Effects Of Violent Video Video Game On Facial Emotion Recognition

The popularity of computer and the arrival of information age,making video games become one of the many recreational activities in modern society,game players not only include the teenagers,adults,and spread to the younger age.In addition to the recreational value of the game,many video games contains a very violent images,and some youth violence crimes have an important relationship with violent video games.So the negative effects of violent video games on the individual is being discussed,and become a hot research topic in psychology.In the past 10 years,many researches explored the influence of violent video games on aggression,and thoes researches pay attention to the result of the violent games,in recent years,researches turned to the reason that violent games caused,focuses on the internal psychological mechanism,such as some research explored how violent video games affect the individual's perception of the social information,in the perspective of cognitive research.This study also explore in the perspective.Based on the theory of General aggressive model,this study focused on the short-term influence of violent video games to facial emotion and its internal mechanism.This study includes three parts:the first part is about the material selection,to ensure that the violent game and neutral game have significant differences on the level of violence;The.second part examine whether violent video games have an effect.on facial emotion attention,and we set two times that faces appear to explore the characteristic of attention;The third part examine how violent video games have an effect on facial emotion recognition,and the internal mechanism on different faces.This study using event related potential to explore the internal neural mechanisms.Through three parts experiment,this study received the conclusion:(1)Violent video games affect facial emotion recognition,and this effect is affected by the time that faces to be present.In the probe detection task,when emotional faces present 100 ms,the violent game group show attention escape to happy faces;When mood face present 500 ms,the violent game group show attention bias to angry faces.(2)That attentional bias in the violent game group reflect alert to angry faces:when they found the angry face,the P3 amplitude is greater than neutral game group.And that shows the violent video games lead the individual pay more attention to the negative information.So the violent video games attention to emotional faces is sensitive to angry faces.(3)The violent game group didn't have greater difficult to remove from angry faces than neutral game group.So the violent video games attention to emotional faces is not hard to remove from angry faces.Overall,this study further confirmed that the violent video games will enhance an individual's attention to angry face,more alert to angry face,reduce the attention to happy face.
