Leaders' emotions have a pervasive impact on organizational behavior. It is also an important issue about leaders' negative emotion and subordinates' performance in organizational behavior studies. Sometimes emotional expressions have ‘symmetrical' effects, in that positive expressions yield advantageous outcomes for the expresser, while negative expressions produce disadvantageous outcomes. However in certain circumstances, leaders' negative emotional expression may produce positive results.Firstly, this study investigated eighty-four on-job postgraduates with open interviews. Finding the impact of leaders' negative emotion on Subordinates' work performance. Then we investigated two hundred and forty-six employees with standard questionnaire to describe the complex relationship among leaders' negative emotion, subordinates' intrinsic work motivation, subordinates' Attributional Style and subordinates' work performance. Results suggest:(1).Leaders' negative emotion has significant effect on students' Subordinates' work performance.(2) Subordinates' intrinsic work motivation mediates the effects of leaders' negative emotion on subordinates' work performance.(3) Subordinates' attributional style moderates the effects of leaders' negative emotion on subordinates' work performance: external locus of control predicted a significant positive association while internal locus of control predicted a significant negative association.(4) Subordinates' sex also moderates the effects of leaders' negative emotion on subordinates' work performance.
