A Study Of Overseas Chinese Exit-entry And Management In Xiamen Port During The Republic Of China

Located in the Southeast coast of China,Xiamen is not only an important commercial in modern China,but also the main port of modern Fujian people go abroad.During the period of the Republic of China,Xiamen gradually formed a complete modern Overseas Chinese management system due to the orderly organization of the government and the growth of the Overseas Chinese community.Xiamen also derived a set of basic functions of management organization,and an industrial chain surrounding the entry and exit of immigrants.Population,money and the flow of goods created a complete chart of the access of Overseas Chinese.Through the interpretation and research of historical materials,this paper summarizes the basic situation and obvious characteristics of the Overseas Chinese from the aspects of population,gender,and occupation.This paper finds that during the period of the Republic of China,the majority of migrants were Fujian Chinese,they are businessmen,and chose Southeast Asia as their main destination.Furthermore,due to the special circumstances at home and abroad,entry and exit of Overseas Chinese refugees became a special case in the issuance of entry and exit permits.This paper combs through the official Overseas Chinese administrative institutions in Xiamen,uses the Xiamen Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau,Xiamen Customs,and the Xiamen Harbor and Quarantine Bureau as the main subject of discussion.This paper also does an in-depth analysis of the management situation of Overseas Chinese entering and exiting Xiamen during the period of Republic of China.In addition,the financial management functions of Overseas Chinese in Xiamen is analyzed,and the role of Xiamen as a port in the Overseas Chinese population with regards to their economic life and activities is summarized.During the period of the Republic of China,immigration intermediaries played an important role in the process of the entry and exit of Overseas Chinese.Both and new passenger,old immgrants and the migration agents composed a basic chain that has strong affinity and geopolitical characteristics.This is also reflected in Xiamen’s hospitality industry.Jinjiang people has made the most prominent contribution in terms of the hospitality industry in Xiamen.And the Overseas Chinese cames from Quanzhou were the main people who entered and exited by Xiamen.In the shipping industry,Xiamen vessels transporting Overseas Chinese were prominent amongst foreign shipping companies.In summary,the entry and exit of Overseas Chinese in Xiamen port is limited by the historical conditions and restrictions of modern national conditions.Nevertheless,it created a set of effective management methods for the Overseas Chinese in Xiamen port during the Republic of China.
