A Report On C-E Translation Of Business Contract:Equipment Procurement Contract Of Coca Codo Sinclair Hydropower Station

With the acceleration of the global economic integration and the deepening of China's opening-up strategy,China's foreign economic trade has become increasingly active,and all the cooperation cannot be carried out smoothly without the constraints of the contract.As an important legal document,business contracts and their translation come to be valued much more in the legal and translation circles.This report is based on the translation of The Contract on Procurement of Turbine Generator Unit,Inlet Spherical Valve,Governor System,Excitation System and Accessory Equipment of Ecuador Coca Codo Sinclair(CCS)Hydropower Station.This translation practice provides the author with better understanding of the stylistic features of business contract and difficulties in C-E translation,and it indicates that the translation quality assessment(TQA)model is helpful in analyzing and solving problems in the process of translation,so that the quality of translation can be ensured with the constraints of quality assessment system.These findings are expected to provide references or enlightenment for translators and researchers of business contract in the future.The report consists of five parts.The first part is an introduction to the background of the project.The second part describes the translation tasks,including the analysis of the characteristics of the original text and the requirements from entrusting party.The third part reviews the whole translation process: pre-translation work covers the search for background information,the choice of translation tools,the analysis of parallel text,the formulation of translation plans,the making of glossary,and a brief introduction to translation quality assessment model(TQA),which works as a bridge between translation theory and translation practice.The process of translation also involves a detailed description of the seven parameters of the model.The post-translation work covers a series of evaluations and feedbacks on the translated text,including self-evaluation,peer evaluation,and the evaluation from the entrusting party and the client.The fourth part is the case analysis,which deals with four major difficulties encountered in the translation process and how they were solved within TQA model.The last part sums up some reflections on translation practice,and expounds the role of TQA model to improve the quality of translation,especially the translation of business contracts.
