During the time period of the Norman Conquest,the Gild Merchant which had the nature of the urban was accompanied with the rise of the Second Movement and the emergence of towns.In order to consolidate the feudal monarchy and curb the power of aristocracy,the king often paid more attention to the political and economic forces of the city.Since Henry II began to grant a large number of city charter,The Gild Merchant was allowed to set up and implemented the “autonomy”.Towns and the public also need protection from Kingship to get rid of the fraud and exploitation of the feudal aristocracy.They maintain their own survival and development through the redemption to get economic privileges of establishing Gild Merchant and the right to the tax package.The Gild Merchant is a link connecting the kingship and towns.In the 13 th century,Gild Merchant almost spread all towns in England,showing a strong vitality.Its function is beyond the economic category,with political functions,religious function,judicial function,relief function.The Gild Merchant had became real and big community groups in the city.The Gild Merchant is the product of specific historical period,having an indelibly historical position and influence,whether as a stage of the British guild organization or as a part of the feudal urban.
