The translation project consists of two parts.Part One is the original text and the translation of Chapter Four and Chapter Five of Health and Education in Early Childhood:Predictors,Interventions and Policies, and Part Two is a translation commentary on the discussion of main issues in the translation process. The original book, edited by three American experts Athur J.Reynolds,Arthur J.Rolnick and Judy A.Temple,is first published by Cambridge University Press in 2014,which is a collection of academic theses on the improvement of health and education in early childhood. It totally contains fourteen chapters, which are classified into three categories. The first category emphasizes impacts of health disparities on child development and one's life;the second one states respective effects of specific health interventions on child development and one's life;the last one focuses upon influences of health and education policy on child development. In order to improve health and education in early childhood in the target language country, the fourth chapter The impact of maternal/child nutrition on cognitive development:prevention implications and the fifth chapter Dental health in at-risk children of the first section are selected as the translation project.Three major obstacles have impeded the translating progress. They are accurate rendering information of the original text, smooth transferring long sentences in the original text, and making efforts to correspond with the style of the original. After the analysis,it is found that the problems above can be tackled under the guidance of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory, and by adopting Liu Zhongde's three translation principles with specific translation techniques, such as amplification, reinventing sentence structures and four-character structure so that the translation can be readily accepted by the target language readers.
