The study of evolution of lexical meaning,a necessary step in the study of history of Chinese lexicology,is of significance.Although great importance has been attached to the study of evolution of words meaning and the relevant fruitful results have been produced.However,case studies should be strengthened.The thesis,with reference to A Grand Chinese Dictionary(HAN YUDACIDIAN),through the selection of six Chinese words as study objects,namely,"xue","xi","xiu","du","gong","nian",based on the theory of semantic field,with the approaches of the combination of the synchronic and diachronic data and quantity and quality analysis,is intended to study diachronic evolution of the six words in the semantic field concerning "learning" in Chinese language.In the thesis,representative literatures of Old Chinese,Middle Chinese,Contemporary Chinese and Modern Chinese,four periods in history of Chinese language divided by Wang Li,a famous Chinese linguist,are chosen with the combination of corpus,from which the statistical analysis of the six words which represent "learning" in semantic field in the four periods respectively is conducted,the formation of the six words concerning"learning" in semantic field is investigated and these six words are described in details from the synchronic level.Furthermore,the transfer of the six words in the history is investigated to explore the development and evolution of "learning" in semantic field.The thesis is divided into three parts.The first part(Chapter I),is the introduction about the selection of topic,research situation,definitions of six words concerning "Learning" in the semantic field,the source of linguistic data,study methods and the significance of research.The second part(Chapter ?,?,?),discusses the lexical meaning of "learning"in semantic field,based on linguistic data and dictionary,from the three perspectives of semantic field,sememe,semanteme.Firstly,from the perspective of sememe,the outline semantic extension of the six words in the semantic field of "learning" is sort out,the change of the purpose and significance of target word is described in details,charts are used to show the outline of semantic extension and figure out the origin and development of six words in a semantic field concerning the sememe of "learning".Secondly,from the perspective of synchronic field statistics and analyzed the Chinese words,"xue","xi","xiu","du","gong","nian" form the sememe of "learning"in different periods.At last,summarized the general law of the six words in the semantic field of "learning,"changes and development.The last part(Chapter V)is the conclusion,in which the study of the topic is concluded.The thesis is based on sememe,related to semantic field,sememe and semanteme,From the study of words evolution of semantic fields concerning "learning",it is helpful to understand history the words in semantic field related to "learning" as well as the change,relation,status and function of these words in the semantic field.Meanwhile,to study vocabulary through the method of semantic field enriches the research methods of lexicology,which of helpful to further understand old Chinese lexicon,the meanings and change of old Chinese words,and provide the evidence and reference for the research on the history of Chinese lexicon.
