| With the continuous advance of reform and opening up,the global economic integration is becoming more and more obvious,and China is supposed to develop with international standards,so the demands on English skills are increasing.Under such circumstances,English,as an international language,is treated as a compulsory course for our learners.And according to the new curriculum,though English will not appear in the college entrance examination,it will act as an important benchmark for voluntary reporting,which means English is of great importance,therefore,students’ interests in English and their English performance improvements have become an crucial task of English education in China nowadays.At present,the traditional English teaching focuses on the students’ basic knowledge of language training,grammar and vocabulary for example,rather than the cultivation of learning attitude,which became the main obstacle in English learning process.As a result,students’ English performance tends to be unsatisfactory.Self efficacy,as an affective variable in language learning,plays a very important role in the effectiveness of English learning,refers to the individual’s prediction and judgment related to his ability which is used to accomplish a requested action.This paper aims to explore the students’ self-efficacy level,self-efficacy differences between male and female students,and the relationship between English performances and self-efficacy,which can be used to analyze the main obstacle factors of students English learning in order to put forward some reasonable suggestions to help students improve their academic performances and English self-efficacy.Using quantitative research method,175 students of grade two from No.26 senior high school of Xi’an are investigated with the help of a questionnaire of English General Self-Efficacy Scale composed by Zhang Shufen which processes a good validity.With the returning rate of 93.71%,169 questionnaires are valid.The data is analyzed by SPSS21.0,and the results are listed as following:First of all,the overall senior students’ English learning Self-Efficacy is at a moderate level.The students often have confidence of achieving the goal of learning,which means they believe that they can learn English well with efforts,but English learning ability is what they lack;Secondly,boys’ English learning self-efficacy is slightly stronger than girls’,but there is no significant difference;Thirdly,English self-efficacy has a good prediction effect on students academic performance,and they two are positively correlated.According to the research results,the writer would like to put forward some suggestions.To be specific,teachers should pay attention to all kinds of needs of students,lead students to the right attribution,and help students set up appropriate learning objectives,in order to cultivate and improve their self-efficacy.The results of this study still lacks certain universality owing to the limitation of time and energy.And further exploring will be accomplished in future to make greater progress in the study of English self-efficacy. |
